Junhui entered the grand restaurant, the opulence of its decor almost overwhelming in its splendor. Crystal chandeliers bathed the room in a soft, golden light, reflecting off the polished marble floors. The scent of exquisite cuisine wafted through the air, a testament to the establishment's renown. Junhui's heart raced as he scanned the room, searching for Ms. Xu, The8's mother.

A waiter, impeccably dressed, guided him to a table where Ms. Xu sat, poised with an air of regal authority. Beside her, The8 radiated beauty, his serene presence a striking contrast to the grandeur around him. His eyes, like twin pools of warmth, locked onto Junhui's, and he offered a smile that seemed to light up the entire room.

Junhui bowed slightly as he approached, his gaze flickering between the two. "Good evening, Ms. Xu," he greeted, his voice steady despite the tumult within.

Ms. Xu's eyes, sharp and discerning, assessed him with a look that was anything but welcoming. "Why do you want to be with my child?" she asked, her tone icy.

"I love him, Ma'am," Junhui replied, his voice filled with sincerity.

"And what is your salary?" she demanded.

"I earn 3,500 yuan a month as a newly joined photographer," Junhui admitted, feeling the weight of his words.

"Who are your parents?" she pressed.

"They're deceased, Ma'am," Junhui answered, his voice barely above a whisper.

Ms. Xu scoffed, a sound that cut through the air like a knife. "Where do you live?" she continued.

"I rent a small apartment, where—" Junhui began, but she interrupted him with another derisive scoff.

"Do you know who we are?" Ms. Xu's voice was sharp, her gaze piercing.

Junhui met her eyes, his heart sinking. He knew all too well the chasm that separated their worlds.

Ms. Xu leaned back, her voice dripping with disdain. "We are the Xu family. My son is accustomed to a life of privilege and comfort. We own multiple businesses, and he has never wanted for anything. And you," she sneered, "are a nobody. You have no parents, no proper income. You have nothing. And yet you have the audacity to say you love my child."

Junhui's head bowed in shame, the weight of her words pressing down on him.

"You cannot even take care of his shoes," she added with a cold laugh.

"Mother, what are you saying?" The8 interjected, his voice filled with a mixture of hurt and anger. "Junhui—"

"Shh," Ms. Xu silenced him with a wave of her hand. "You don't deserve him. I'll arrange your marriage with my friend's son. He's a doctor; he can provide for you properly." She turned her gaze back to Junhui, her eyes hard. "Unlike someone."

Junhui felt a lump rise in his throat. "I'm sorry, Ma'am," he murmured, bowing deeply. His heart shattered with every word, but he held his composure, knowing that his love for The8 was real, even if it was not enough in this world of wealth and power.
