Hibernation (USM)

It was a colder day than the others in New York, normal considering it was the Christmas period.

It could have been a beautiful day if a villain had not decided to attack, Why don't they take Christmas holidays? Peter always wondered about it, next time he would ask Doc Ock.

Anyway, the villain, He had some civilians as hostages, that was not really the biggest problem that Peter now has.
When he was bitten by the spider he did some research, and found out he had 'inherited' some traits from these little creatures, and maybe, just maybe, he might have inherited their hibernation too.

Ok to be clear it isn't really hibernation, It was more like a state of trance, he also says 'maybe' because he never had the chance to prove it, not that he wanted to, he didn't know how his body would react, It would have been too risky to try, even if he had thought about it for scientific purposes.

He got lost in chatter, anyway his likely problem was the last of his thoughts, he had to free the civilians, take them to safety, neutralize the bad guy -who happens to have a freezing gun- make sure his team is okay and get back home.

He didn't want to be selfish, but he decided that the team will take care of the bad guy, meanwhile he was going to save the hostages, hoping that in the meantime the criminal had already been defeated.

Let's say that the first part was a success, unfortunately for the second one, he wasn't so lucky.

Once he took the people to the police outside, he returned to help eventually his team.
Which they needed his help, it was really difficult to get near the guy without getting shot, and they knew how dangerous that can be.
They'll most likely be in critical condition because of the cold.

After a while together they manage to beat him, as always they underestimate the villain and they let their guard down, taking advantage of their weakness, he managed to take back the gun and shoot one of them, Nova.

Peter being the saint that he is, wasted no time, moving Nova and taking the hit himself. Despite the shock, Power Man took the gun from him and knocked him out.

They immediately called fury and went near their leader, He was shaking from the cold, and sometimes his hand had tics.
Ava, to be more sure, checked his pulse, only to find out in horror that it was becoming progressively weaker.

"POWER MAN, QUICKLY CALL FURY, PETER IS DYING" Ava screamed, she tried to stay calm but it was difficult if their best friend was slowly dying.

They knew that a shot could be fatal, but they hoped that nothing would actually happen, that they would have time to save themselves, they knew the consequences but they didn't knowledge them.

Fury arrived as fast as he could, he absolutely did not want to tell Aunt May that Peter had died because of him, after all, that boy was his responsibility, and he didn't like the idea of losing him, in the end he cared a lot for that boy.

Right now Peter was in the infirmary.

A day or so had passed, Dr.Connors did some more tests on him to see how bad his conditions are.

"Ok I have some good News" He had started to say Dr. Connors.
"Go on"

"Ok so, Peter's not dead but let's say he isn't really much alive either"
"Ok now what does that mean" Nova desperately wanted to know how was Peter.
"It means that he's alive, yes, but his body is in a state of trance, apparently in hibernation, although it has another name because of the spiders- "

"Dr.connors!" Fury stopped him before he got lost in the scientific explanation.

"Oh yes sorry, so he's alive, He inherited some traits of spiders that they didn't know, in this case, when it's too cold to survive, he goes into a trance.
We still don't know if his body has collateral effect, so his condition might be always critical.
The important thing is to keep him warm, and he will almost certainly wake up on his own when his body feels safe from danger." 

The team definitely did not expect this, not even fury to be honest, when Peter woke up they will definitely conduct some tests to discover other secrets.

"Do y'all think that Peter knew about this?" Ava started, now they all were in their dormitories.
"If you mean about the hibernation things, I don't think so, Peter is not that stupid to put himself in danger" Nova tried to argue.

"Ok he is that stupid"
"Ava's right, he usually is the first to fight, it was obvious that he tried to avoid the villain" power man had a good point.
"I like to think that Peter has some self-respect and he is not that much of a masochist, maybe he suspect that but didn't fully know" Danny tried to reason.
"Let's hope for the best"

"Hey Peter how are you feeling? "  it Was danny's time to check on Peter.
It's been a few days and recently  Peter was becoming aware for a few minutes even though everyone is convinced that he actually doesn't understand anything.

"'M fiinee" He could have been mistaken for a drunk person.
"If you say so, are you warm?"
" 'M fiiiineee!! Wanna sleep 'ow"  Just as he said it, he fell back asleep immediately.

Another week has passed, Christmas was just around the corner, and Peter has many more moments of consciousness, he actually understands the questions even if it takes him some time to understand and respond. They managed to get him to eat something, even though it was too little for his metabolism. They also found out that they arrived just in time to bring Peter to safety, because even if the gun's cold wasn't too much, if they had waited longer, his body would have taken longer to warm up, and consequently Peter would have taken longer to wake up.
They even managed to get him to put on heavy pajamas during one of his lucid moments, yes, because he still had his spiderman suit on, they had refused to take it off out of respect for his privacy since he was not in dangerous conditions. And Peter, when he understood, was glad for this.

Honestly, they were a little worried when for 1/2 days Peter slept alone without waking up, but then when hey finally woke up they understand that he was out of danger of the hibernation.

Fortunately it was the 23th of December, so he managed to go home and enjoy Christmas with family and friends.
Even though after that fury decided that he needed to do more tests, but Peter refused, he didn't want to become a lab rat, it reminded him too much of ock even though he knew they were safe, but for his own good now fury is chasing him because he decided to run.
