THE PALACE
IN THE DINING ROOM
10:00

Khethiwe didn't prepare breakfast for us as usual. I assume she must've been angry.

We sat at the breakfast table as afamily without Khethiwe.

Me: (To Qhawe) Where's Khethiwe?

Qhawe: I don't know.

Me: She's your wife, what do you mean you don't know? Vuyokazi!!!

Vuyokazi rushes in the dining room.

Vuyokazi: Ndlovukazi.

Me: Can you get Khethiwe for me, tell her we need to talk.

Vuyokazi: Okay. (Walks upstairs)

Bheki: (To Ayanda) How do you feel, mtanami? {My child?}

Ayanda: I'm tired. You'll bring my food upstairs. (Walks upstairs)

Zenzile: Rude much.

Vuyokazi: (Walks in the dining room) Akekho, Ndlovukazi. Uhambile. {She's not here, my Queen. She left.}

Me: u'Hambile? Kanjani? {Left? How?}

Vuyokazi: Uthathe zonke izinto zakhe, ayikho ngisho ne suitcase yakhe. Uhambile. {She took all her things, the suitcase as well. She left.}

Me: (Looks at Qhawe) Qhawe..

Qhawe: Hai. (Takes his food and Ayanda's food) Ngeke.{Never.} (Walks upstairs)

Zenzile: I'll try to call her. (Walks away)

AT THEMBISA
KHETHIWE'S HOME
IN THE KITCHEN
12:00

I walked in the kitchen and I found my mom busy preparing lunch. She always found peace in the kitchen and if she was preparing a storm it meant two things, dad upset her or we're celebrating.

I hope it's the second one this time. I didn't leave the drama to come home to more drama.

Me: Need help?

She turned and smiled.

Ma: Maybe..uhh, how about you help me with those potatoes. Peel them and dice them.

Me: Okay. You making stew?

Ma: Yes, I was gonna do it for dinner but I have to leave before our dinner.

Me: Leave? Where are you going?

Ma: I'm meeting a client. Work related issues.

Me: Okay.

I washed my hands and started peeling the potatoes.

Me: Why are we cooking up a storm for lunch? You fought with daddy or we celebrating?

Ma: (chuckles) Both. We're celebrating the fact that you're home and I fought with your father.

Me: Why? What was the fight about?

Ma: Stupid grown folks stuff, but we'll sort it out.

Me: Okay.

We continued cooking together as I told her about what I was going through. She gave me advice and told me that I can stay as long as I wanted.
