"You can't be serious hon, Haruka as your successor? She's not your biological daughter"

"Yes, I know. But I'm not getting any younger"

"I'm sorry, I couldn't bare you a child.."

"Hey, it's fine. My family may be disappointed of you, but not me. I'll make them believe that Haruka Tachibana is worthy to be the next head director of JAKDF"

I was only 15 when they declared that, now I'm 25, became the Commander of the entire JAKDF at the age of 22, and it's been.. 3 years since dad died. Protecting the people within JAKDF with his limited strength left, that cost him his life. Leaving all the duties and responsibilities to me as Acting Director of JAKDF, my mom has done everything she could to convince them that I am worthy for dad's position.

"But she's not blood related" is what they kept saying. Does being a blood relative really matter when trying to take over a position? Such a powerful one too. Family in both sides of my mom's and dad's didn't do anything regarding this matter, they still don't support me. My mom is the only one who does.

I sigh as I paced back and forth in my office as I was going through the recruits, some of them were life long partners of ours, the Hoshinas and the Shinomiya. They've been there with my dad for the longest time.

I guess, my childhood friends, Soshiro and Soichiro support me ten fold, when we were kids, they would argue with the grownups saying I'm worthy enough to be in my dad's position one day. But alas, they didn't take it seriously since we were kids back then.

Soichiro, my dad made him the 6th Division Captain, while Soshiro was given the 3rd Divison Vice-Captain position, I was so happy for them that they got their roles, I was overjoyed even.

Since I was the director's daughter and Commander of JAKDF, they were ordered to stay serious around me, since I was the first one that got my role at the age of 22, Soichiro got his at the age of 26 while Soishiro got his at the age of 24.

But once we're off duty on some weekends, that serious tension disintegrated. Acting just like the old days.

"Commander Tachibana, permission to enter?"

"Permission granted Captain Ashiro, enter"

I placed the papers and stacked them up on my desk as the doors opened and closed to reveal Captain Mina Ashiro of the 3rd Division, the higher up of Soshiro's.

"I see your reviewing and revising the recruits for this year ma'am"

I nodded my head, "yes I was, I heard from Vice Captain Hoshina that this man, Kafka Hibino, was a childhood friend of yours?"

She was still as steel, she flinched a little when I said his name, but later she responded, "yes Commander, he was. We both promised to even join the Defense Force together."
