Chapter 20 - i do care

Youseff woke up mopier than usual . ' fuck ' he thought looking at his arm all neatly bandaged . He had nearly forgotten all about last night . He didn't want to go to work ,he really was not in the mood to deal with anyone today .
However youseff was the kind of man who didn't miss work even on the shittiest day of his life . Yes, he absolutely hated work but it distracted him from everything in his head so in some strange way it was worth the hassle .
He picked up his phone from the bedside table and opened WhatsApp .
Shit
His parents had messaged .
He leaned against the headboard .
' me and your father are coming round today at 5 . Be ready . '
" for fuck sake ! " he shouted
Nathan jumped and woke up , " what is it baby what's wrong ?"
"My parents are coming over at 5 today . Wich is not good at all because they are very homophobic and they will see us together and my dad will say something about you and he will make you feel like shit and they will see who I really am and hate me and I don't want to deal with that today and it's going to be really crap and .. and " he took a deep breath . " I just don't want them to say the wrong thing to you "
" trust me , it will be okay darling " Nathan reassured him " we don't even have to tell them we're a couple if you don't want to "
Youseffs heart clenched " No . No . No . Im not doing that ,and I'm not going to make you do that . Because I love you and I think I need to just face them . "
"Okay , that's okay . " Nathan smiled " there is no need to worry , I will be right beside you . Always ."
Nathan pecked him on the lips and got out of bed
" come on , two more days of work then the weekend "
They both began dressing themselves in their usual outfits accept yousseff put on a jumper Wich he wouldn't usually do . " why are you wearing that love ? It's about 25 degrees today you dont need to "
" it's just so . You know . The kids won't ask questions "
Nathan came up behind youseff and hugged him tight and kissed his neck . " you don't need to hide them you know ? "
" I know , just until they heal a bit . "
" okay as long as you know you are beautiful no matter what "
Nathan came up infront of his boyfriend and kissed him lovingly
" we can take the bandages off now if you like "
" yes please "
Nathan lightly pulled up youseffs sleeve and carefully took the bandages off . The cuts that looked quite bad the previous night were now red and white , still quite noticeable. But better .
Nathan rubbed some cream over them making sure not to hurt him . " how does that feel ? "
" better , thank you . " there was a pause " what would I do without you,  hey ?"
Nathan smiled and kissed him . " we best be going though, we will be late love "
Youssef tiredly groaned " come on darling " he held his hand and left the room to go to the car "

School - 8:30
" right year 10 roll up your sleeves and begin working on the practical that you planned last lesson ."
He was about to roll up his own before remembering that he couldn't . He sighed and began working on the demonstration experiment at the front of the room .
He glanced up and saw a student working with acid without rolling up sleeves " Zach I just said roll up your sleeves "
" you haven't rolled up your sir "
" I don't need to because I am the teacher and I know what I'm doing "
" so do I , because as you said we planned it last lesson . "
Everyone in the class had eyes on the two and could feel the tension building
" Zach I'm not going to argue with you , I'm the teacher so just do it "
" no "
" Zach this is very simple , you either roll up your sleeves or I send you out and you just don't do the practical . Your choice "
" so send me out ... you fag "
Something inside yousseff snapped . And you could see the exact moment Zach knew he overstepped the line . 
" GET OUT OF MY CLASSROOM NOW "  he didn't shout at an individual student like that often .
Even Zach knew that he had probably said too much over a stupid thing like rolling up sleeves so he walked out and slammed the door . Youssef took some deep breaths and carried on with the practical , his voice was a bit wobbly and his arms were a bit shaky. He'd surprised himself by how angry he got and he supposed this was just part of the coming out process. You will always get kids who act like being gay is the worst thing . You just had to get over it.
Yousseff came out of the classroom to see zach leant against the wall in the corridor.
" right , are you going to explain to me what on earth that was about zach "
He just shrugged
" zach , come on . Your never usually like this "
" I just didn't want to roll up my sleeves it's not a big issue , you just made it a problem "
" I get that , but when working with acid for your own safety it's best that you do ... and I'm sorry for shouting just please don't ever use that kind of language again . "
" okay , whatever "
" zach I care about you and if there's something going on you can talk to me "
" no sir you don't really care . Your paid to care . "
" come on that isn't fair "
" no , this isn't fair . Kids in this school could have so much going on in there lives and no teacher will ever ask them if they are genuinely okay , they just tell them off when it gets to a point that they just don't see a purpose in trying anymore . I've been on report for as long as I can remember and I have been in isolation most weeks and I've been suspended 5 times this year . All because I just don't want to try and no one ' cared ' enough to try and help me . So no sir . You don't care ."
Zach walked off into the now busy corridor  leaving mr Farouk mildly stunned .
