"Mommy?"

"Yes Jacob?"

"Why did Yzrela keep going with the second bond thingy, even if she knew she might die?"

"Jacob. A mother's love for her children is the strongest force we have in this world. Yzrela risked her life so that her hatchling would have a chance to live in this world and discover all the good things life has to offer us. Yzrela was ready to give up her life so that her hatchling could make a life of it's own. That's why Yzrela kept going with the second bond."

"OK so Yzrela loved the hatchling before it was hatched?"

"Yes, now please Jacob, may I continue?"

"Yes mommy!"

                                               ***************************************************

Kaelo and Kaiden, the second hatchling had indeed survived the hatching process, were trying to escape from the confined space they were being kept in. The hatchlings were starting to crawl around, newborns always caught on quickly. The hard part would be teaching them how to fly.

"Yzrela, stop hovering! Let them roam! They will need to be good at crawling around if they are to find their Tears." Yzrela's Draken, Juliana, said. Yzrela huffed and sat back as she watched her hatchlings crawl around the room.

"Juliana?" Shardon - the same Fey from the hatching - said.

"Yes, Shardon?"

"Come walk with me. Give Yzrela some time with her hatchlings before the ceremony."

"Oh, of course. Yes let's go for a walk." Juliana walked out of the room, looking back as she did. Her face was twisting in concern. It was understandable, she had just witnessed something so beautiful, yet so agonizingly painful. Mother dragons were always in pain when their hatchling hatches. We don't fully understand why, just that it is connected to the bond being created between mother and hatchling. Being Yzrela's Draken and having their own bond allowed Juliana some insight into the pain Yzrela went through. She wasn't able to feel it, just experience it. Like smelling dinner and knowing what it would taste like but not actually tasting it.

They walked together for mere moments before grandmother broke the silence.

"Juliana, why did you not inform me of the second hatchling?"

"Because, Shardon. I've hear the stories.  People say that two bonds at once are too much for a mother dragon like Yzrela to handle.  For years every time there are twin eggs the Fey always take one away, and it never hatches, doesn't even get the chance to live.  Yzrela begged me not to tell you, she didn't want you to take her hatchling away.  I couldn't bring myself to do it, she wanted it so bad, she promised me she could handle the second bond, so I let her." She shrugged.

Shardon sighed.

"You risked her life for another hatchling? What if she couldn't handle it? You'd have two hatchlings and no dragon to act as mother to them. They would have died and you would have risked it all for nothing!"

"I risked nothing but my dragon's happiness Shardon. She is the one who risked everything for her second hatchling. She wanted her hatchling to live and she wanted me to allow her to let the hatchling live. I simply gave her what she wanted. It was not my place to decide the hatchling's fate so I did not attempt to." Juliana shrugged and continued on walking.

"Juliana you must see why the Fey are against such a task for a dragon already under such stress!" Shardon pleaded in concern.

"I do understand Shardon and I do not care. What's done is done, and there will be no more discussion on such a useless topic. Yzrela has not died and she will not die any time soon. She is a strong dragon. We will not discuss this matter any further."
