New day, New problem

That night, Abbie was able to sleep well; it was the first time he had slept in a long time.

This time, his dream was sweet, as if he were always on the clouds, because he dreamed of his beloved. This time, in a more pleasant situation like a picnic under the trees, it felt so relaxing to lie on Lana's lap, the dream serving as a reminder of those moments of love between them.

Abbie woke up in a good mood that morning, ate some cereal, and went out with a smile, something new for him but a pleasant sight to see.

He walked to the entrance where he found Lana waiting for him; she also seemed excited to see him. When she noticed his presence, she couldn't help but kiss his head lovingly.

Lana: "Abbie! You finally arrived hehe... Sorry about yesterday, maybe I was too affectionate with you in front of Engel and Claire-"

Abbie: "O-Oh, don't worry, it doesn't bother me Lana... Your affection would never bother me, m-my love..."

He said the last part timidly, not used to using those words with anyone, so he got a bit nervous when it slipped out, but he couldn't help smiling when he did, as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

Lana: "Oh- did you just call me that? Silly boy hehe..."

Lana let out a nervous but happy giggle, giving him another kiss, this time on the cheek. Of course, being the first time both of them were dating someone, the situation was quite sweet between them, an adorable sight, honestly.

A bit clumsily, they held hands; Lana seemed more nervous today. Maybe because of the sweet way Abbie called her suddenly, or perhaps because there were some exams today.

When they arrived at the classroom, Abbie's expression melted a bit upon seeing Miss Circle at the desk. This... It seemed like math was first, and he shuddered.

He was the WORST student in this subject; not only did his self-esteem crumble every time he was in Miss Circle's class, where she frequently insulted him for his poor performance, but she also threatened him with physical aggression. He whispered while they walked.

Abbie: "L-Lana... Was there math in the first hour? I-I thought that was tomorrow..."

Lana: "Wait, what?"

Lana looked up and froze upon seeing Miss Circle. She had the second lowest grades. Usually, Miss Circle just gave her dirty looks, unlike the emotional torture she inflicted on Abbie, so she was worried.

Miss Circle: "Ah... Pair of failed lovebirds, today you sit separately. The smell of love on you two is disgusting."

Her voice was cold as always, not even looking at them while checking the papers she would use for the exam.

Lana and Abbie shuddered a bit but complied, sitting a bit away from each other, but the sight was painful.

As the classroom filled with students, Abbie only felt his heart twist from not being able to feel some comfort from his beloved in this stressful moment.

Lana, on her part, appeared calm while trying to review the topics, but the thought of Abbie getting into trouble once again made her terribly nervous.

The class kept filling up, everyone silent. The atmosphere was cold and tense as no one dared to speak in that classroom because everyone feared the authoritarian teacher in front of them.

Miss Circle: "Alright... Bunch of useless people, the minimum passing grade on this exam is a C. If you score lower, you won't leave this school in one piece."

Everyone stayed silent, the tension palpable.

Miss Circle: "Good. I hope you studied, worms..."

She went desk by desk with a cold expression, placing the exam papers face down. When she reached Abbie's desk, she looked at him with some hatred but a slight smile, which meant nothing good.

Abbie trembled, knowing he might not get out of this problem, his heart racing, his vision blurring as his eyes started to moisten with a thousand thoughts racing through his mind like a derailed train.

What would happen to his family? To those who love him... His beloved Lana. The thought of leaving the person he loves with all his heart alone hurt so much.

Abbie fought to keep from crying while trembling, and all those thoughts entered his head like a plague.

"And if something happens to me, will she replace me? Or would it be hard for her to forget me? Could she forget me? Would she be with someone else?"

Those thoughts made his heart ache. But he tried to calm down and breathe as Lana had told him.

Miss Circle: "Turn your papers over... You have one hour. If you don't finish in that hour, I'll tear your arms off, understand?... Especially you, Abbie."

Abbie, with tearful eyes, just nodded. The time started, and as soon as he saw the first equation, he blanked out, only feeling some of his tears fall onto the table and his exam paper.

He started to write, clumsily trying to tackle the topic. He tried to remember those days when Lana took the time to explain what the teacher had said a second time.

He took a deep breath again, a little calmer but still with that tension in his chest, trying to do what he could. Lana, on her side, was also struggling.

She felt the sharp gaze of her teacher on her as if she wanted to tear her apart. Miss Circle was the kind of teacher who hated couples at school, doing anything to ruin their day or, if possible, make them break up.

The time seemed eternal until suddenly, her firm voice again...

Miss Circle: "Time's up, come on. Your papers on my desk, NOW."

Everyone, scared, went to hand in their papers. Abbie was a bit teary but put his paper last. Circle looked him in the eyes, as if mocking him. Abbie could only try to avert his gaze and quickly return to his desk.

Miss Circle: "Good... I'll give you your results at the end of the day. I hope you tried your best this time."

She smiled mockingly as she took the papers and left the classroom. The bell rang, and the students had their next class now.

Abbie sighed, and as soon as everyone could stand up, he ran into Lana's arms like a lost puppy.

Lana immediately hugged him tightly, both desperate for each other's comfort.

They didn't know what could happen now; all they could do was wait and see...
