Thomas's pov

After the most awkward dinner ever, Minho had asked me to follow him, We walked through the forest, we didn't speak as he walked in front of me, I didn't have a clue on where we were going.

"Hey, where're we going?" I questioned, trying to keep up with his fast pace.

"You'll see." He mutters, sighing slightly as he continues to walk. Eventually after a while, we walk up to a building, it was round with a point at the top, made up of wood. Minho opens the door, walking in, i following him shortly after. My eyes wander around, finding wooden carvings of numbers and words, Minho circles the table before pulling the sheet off, revealing a smaller version of the maze?, He puts his hands down, leaning against it.

"It's the maze, all of it." I scan the smaller maze in shock, as I move to stand next to him.

"What do you mean 'all of it'? I thought you were still mapping it?" I ask confused, folding my arms over my chest.

"There's nothing left to map." He lets out a small sigh, before speaking again.

"I've ran every inch of it myself. Every cycle, every pattern. If there was a way out, we would of found it by now." He spoke with a soft and lower pitch, revealing his fleeting sadness.

"Why haven't you told anyone this before?" I furrow my eyebrows with disbelief, there was no way out?

"It was Alby's call. People needed to believe that we have a chance of getting out of this place but maybe now...we have a real chance." He nodded his head, showing his determination, he hands me the device, before looking back to the maze.

"Take a look at this. About a year ago we started exploring these outer sections." He waves his hand over the edge of the maze. "We found these numbers printed onto the walls, sections one through eight." He pauses, thinking.

"See, the way it works is every night when the maze changes it opens a new section. Today section six was open, then tomorrow it'll be four then eight then three, the pattern always stays the same." I listen to his words carefully, looking down to the device as my finger grazes over the red number.

"What's so special about seven?" I look back up to him, who shrugs.

"I don't know, but the other night when you killed that Griever, section seven was open. I think it must be where it comes from." He puts his hands on his hips.

"Tomorrow, Me and you are gonna take a closer look." I nod in agreement.

Out of nowhere, I hear rushing footsteps when Jeff and Clint appear in the doorway, both breathing heavily.

"Hey, what are you guys doing? You're not allowed in here." Minho asked, his tone sharp.

"Sorry it's just..um" Jeff breaths quickly, trying to catch his breath, before Clint interrupts.

"It's the girl."

My eyebrows furrow in confusion as I take a step closer

"What? She awake?" I ask.

The two boys exchange a glance.
"You could say that."

As we emerge from the woods, I can hear loud commotion, the gladers yelling out, I see Chuck and Cara grinning at the sight in front of them, I run up to them.

"Hey Chuck, what's going on?" I say as I slow down my pace, the other boys following me.

"Girls are awesome!" Chuck laughs, pointing over to the boys in the distance as the looked up to the watch tower. Cara grins at his answer, giving him a small high five, before beginning to walk over, the yelling getting louder as we walked up to them. As I realised what they were looking up to. It was the other girl.

"Leave me alone!" The girl's voice echoed throughout the glade, her words filled with fear.

"Watch your heads!" Boys yelled out as the girl threw anything she could find on the tower, I walked up to Newt, using my arms as protection.

"Hey! If you through one more of those things-OW!" Gally shouted before getting cut off as the girl threw a bowl at him, hitting him in the head.

"Go away!" She exclaimed, her voice laced with frustration and a hint of desperation.

I try calling out to her, trying to get her attention but my voice was cut short when a barrage of objects came hurled in my direction, ducking out the way.

"I don't think she likes us very much." Newt says, his thick British's accent becoming clear. I hear a giggle from behind me, knowing it's Cara as she folds her arms, looking up the girl.

"What do you want from me?" The girl called out, before throwing more pans down. We all ducked down.

"We just wanna talk!" I finally let my words out before ducking. Again.

"I'm warning you!" She yelled.

"Take cover yall! Take cover." Fry yelled, stepping back, getting away from the pot that came his way.

I did the only thing I could.
"Hey! Hey it's Thomas! It's Thomas!" I called out, the girl froze before peaking over the edge, everyone else tensed, worried what would happen next.

"I'm gonna come up, okay?" I said, keeping my voice calm, my hands up in defence. As I take a step towards the ladder, the girl recedes, hiding.

"I'm coming up."

I took the first step up the ladder, the others gladers began to speak again.

"Is this what all girls are like?" Frypan turns to Cara, sarcastically, who shrugs in response, unfolding her arms. She walks away with the others, sneaking a quick glance back to me. Locking eyes, I give her a small nod, before she turns away, walking with Newt and Chuck.
