17 Knight in Shining Armor

Baba took a quick sidestep and walked to his seat to avoid Leo, Mikey, Raph, and April as they ran to hug Opal. She laughed as they all crowded her and said how much they missed her. She couldn't contain her happiness at that moment, at the beginning of summer break she only had Dominic, Miguel, and Mr. Miyagi, and now she is surrounded by people who love her. When they all took a step back, she could see Donnie awkwardly standing back, unsure of what to do. They hadn't spoken since she had kissed him the day before. She made her way over to him and they shared an awkward smile.

"Happy almost birthday," Donnie chuckled.

"Thanks," Opal smiled before silence took over once again. "... I'm sorry if I made things weird yesterday, I understand if you don't feel the same way, I hope you aren't upset with me, I-" Opal was cut off when Donnie gently put a hand on her cheek, bringing her closer. They stared into each other's eyes for a moment both calculating their next move before Donnie placed a kiss on her lips. Unlike the first one, this wasn't rushed. Donnie took his time and Opal returned the kiss almost immediately. When they separated, they both wore sheepish smiles on their beet red faces. The turtles and April jokingly cheered, and the others soon joined with light laughter making Donnie and Opal's faces darken by about three shades of red.

Soon they all made their way to their seats. Opal sat with Dominic on her right and Donnie on her left. The dining table extended to fit everyone, and chatter filled the courtyard. Opals found family were finally getting to know her blood family and everyone seemed to be getting on well. Raph was seated next to Pandora who had taken a liking to him immediately, and Leo was seated with Uncle Coven and together the two were cracking up at their own jokes. Everyone was enjoying themselves, and when Opal looked around at her family, she couldn't help but smile. Her and Donnie talked quietly together about many things. Donnie was working on a new project, he wanted to create some kind of portal door that led from the turtle's lair to the hidden city, specifically Opal's home. He wanted a quick way to visit her without having to rely on Leo's portals which were unreliable at best. Opal talked about how she was nervous to see what she would look like in her ghoul form, Donnie assured her that she would look nice no matter what, to which she blushed at.

    After dinner everyone made their way inside to the lounge for the party. When Opal walked in the room she gasped, Her Aunt Venus and Uncle Kane had worked hard to bake and decorate a beautiful cake for Opal's birthday, it was three layers with black frosting and cherries. Opal's mouth watered at the sight, she had always had a sweet tooth especially for cake and this would be the thing to make her night. Everyone gathered in the middle of the room around Opal and the cake which was taller than her on the table it was sitting on. The lights in the lounge were dimmed and they began singing happy birthday to Opal.

    After the song it was time for Opal to blow out the candles, she tried - and failed - to blow the candles out but the top of the cake was about a foot above her head. She gasped lightly as she felt two hands pick her up around her waist and looked back to see Donnie, he lifted her up as if she weighed nothing, so she was sitting on his bicep with a smile. She smiled back with a laugh and leaned her hand on his shoulder for balance as she leaned over to blow out the candles on the cake to make her wish. Everyone cheered after she blew out the candles and it was time for the party to begin.

    It was around 9:30 pm and music played loudly in the background while everyone entertained themselves, there was champagne and cake to eat, most of the older adults were off to the side mingling with one another while April, Leo, Raph, Mikey, and Pandora danced to the music. Elio, Emir, and Miguel were all cheering for Dominic as he attempted to throw back an entire bottle of champagne at once. Opal looked around from where she and Donnie sat and chuckled at the group around her before looking at Donnie who also watched with amusement. When he met her eyes, she silently communicated for him to follow her, and they snuck away from the group. They walked out to a large balcony that had a beautiful view of the city and the night sky. Opal leaned on the balcony while Donnie stood next to her as they admired the sight.
