The next morning, the gladers sat down during breakfast. Janson came in, along with some men behind him.

"Alice. Barry. Walt. Edgar. Samantha." Janson started to say. Thomas and the others were sitting at the table, Thomas eyeing a certain door.

"I wanna know what's through that door." Thomas softly said. Newt looked over at him.

"Now, we've been over this. You said they were covered up, so you don't know what you saw. It could've been anything under there." Newt said.

"I know exactly what I saw. They were bodies. Aris said they bring in a new batch every night."

"Who the hell is Aris?" Frypan asked. Thomas motioned at Aris. All the boys looked at him. Frypan recognized the name. He couldn't remember why though.

"Well, I'm sold." Minho said, looking back at Thomas.

"And last but not least, David. Thank you for your attention. Enjoy the rest of your evening." Janson said.

"Okay, until we know anything for certain, we should just keep our heads down... and try not to draw any attention to ourselves, all right?" Newt said. Thomas stood up and started to walk away. "What is he doing?"

"I think he's drawing attention to himself." Frypan said. Everyone watched from their seats. Then when Thomas pushed the guy, all of them ran to him.

"Idiot." Newt said, coming to Thomas.

"Control your friend!" One of the guards said. Janson ran over. The gladers had pulled Thomas away from the guard.

"What's happening here? Thomas? I thought we could trust each other. You know we're all on the same team here."

"Are we?" Thomas asked, glaring at the man. Janson frowned.

"Get them to their bunks." The gladers were all pushed into their room.

"What the hell was that about?" Minho asked as soon as the door closed.

"You didn't really think they were just gonna let you through?" Newt asked. Thomas pulled out the guards card. All the other gladers sighed.

"I'm going to find out what's on the other side of that door. Right. Newt, they're hiding something. Okay? These people are not who they say they are." Thomas said.

"No, Thomas, you don't know that! The only thing that we do know is that they helped rescue us from WICKED. They gave us new clothes. They gave us food. They gave us a proper bed. Some of us haven't had that in a long time." Newt told Thomas

"Yeah, but..."

"Some of us are a lot longer than others." The vent door opened, and Aris came in.

"Hey, Thomas." Aris said. "You got it, didn't you?"

"What the..." Frypan said, looking at the boy.

"Yeah. Let's go. All right, look, maybe you guys are right. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. But I got to find out for sure. Just cover for me. I'll be back as soon as I can." Thomas left with Aris, leaving the gladers in the room.

Aris and Thomas climbed through the vents and slowly went into the hallway. They found the door and opened it up. They closed the door behind them and saw bodies hanging. They were connected to something that was draining something from them. They looked around some more. The two then heard the door open and the two hid behind the pillars. Thomas saw Janson walking in with another man.

"You sure this can't wait?" Janson asked, walking farther in the room.

"She was very specific, sir. She wanted to speak with you personally." The man said. A screen appeared and Thomas saw the woman he thought was dead. Ava Paige.

"Good evening, Doctor Paige. Lovely to see you again. Although I admit... I wasn't expecting to hear from you quite so soon." Janson said.

"Change of plans, Janson. I'll be arriving a little sooner than expected. First thing tomorrow." Ava told the man.

"We'll be delighted to have you. I think you'll be pleased with the progress we've made." Janson pulled up results, making Ava look at them. "As you can see, early results have been extremely promising. Whatever it is you've been doing to them in there, it's working."

"Not well enough. I just received board approval. I want all the remaining subjects sedated and prepared for harvest by the time I arrive." Ava said. "Does Thomas suspect a thing?" Aris looked over to Thomas.

"Of course. He is too curious and is causing a commotion." Janson said.

"What about him and the other boy?" Janson rolled his eyes.

"Thomas is always by him. I think they formed a connection despite losing all of their memories."

"Keep a close eye on your son and use the other boy as leverage in case Thomas fights." Ava said. Thomas froze. "Does Thomas suspect that you're his father? "Janson shook his head. Ava nodded. "Good. Get them ready."
