Heart Attack or Flutter?

As Lily stumbled towards the garden of the venue, she could feel tears swelling up in her eyes. She knew she shouldn't have come.

She felt ridiculous. There she was, a 28 year old lawyer who was a partner in her firm and was living happily and debt free, sobbing over the same high school bully who had her crying when she was sixteen years old.

Tom didn't say a word, knowing nothing he could say right now would help. Instead, he simply rubbed her back and provided a shoulder to cry on, offering comfort.

As Lily wiped away her tears, she looked back up at Tom's face of concern. She stared into his blue eyes, and instantly felt at ease.

"I'm sorry," Lily said in between quiet sobs, "I shouldn't have brought you here. I shouldn't have dragged you into my drama, can we just go home please?"

Tom looked down at Lily with concern, cupping her chin with his hands, allowing her eyes to meet his gaze.

"Darling, you didn't drag me into anything. It's clear that miserable people like her have nothing going for them in life and have to hold on to the only good days they have left from high school."

Tom's jab at Emma made Lily laugh between sobs, she chuckled as she carefully wiped tears away from her eyes in order not to mess up her makeup.

Tom continued. "Plus, you are one of the most intelligent, kind and funny people I know, and the whole world deserves to see it! Don't let miserable people like Emma bring you down because I know for a fact that the amount of love and spark you have, Emma will never be able to represent even a fraction of it."

Tom stroked her cheek with his thumb as he spoke, pleased to feel her anxiety and distress slipping away under his touch.

She looked at him through teary eyes and saw his compassion, and her heart fluttered.

"Thank you, Tom. You're right, let's go back in there."

Tom smiled and held his hand out for Lily, the two re-entering the venue hand in hand smiling from ear to ear. Although they were afraid to admit it, the rest of the night required very little acting and a whole lot of real feelings.

They returned to their group, and laughed for the rest of the party. Tom kept his hands on Lily at all time to keep her comfortable, and Lily was enjoying his touch more than she would like to admit.

At one point, Lily had found herself catching up with one of her old friends, Brianna.

Brianna was one of the only people who had stuck by her side after Emma had turned everyone against her, and even though they lost touch during college, their care for each other never wavered.

"Sooo, Lil's.." Brianna started, her dark curly hair bouncing excitedly as she spoke. "How the HELL are you here with THE Tom Hiddleston! As in fucking LOKI?? That's amazing girl!"

Lily felt herself blush at the comment, as she looked over at Tom with a wide smile. Tom was conversing with Brianna's husband, Max, who had bonded with quickly over a shared love of golf. Something Max said had made Tom laugh enormously, causing him to clutch his stomach for support.

The sight of him having fun and being happy in this environment made her heart flutter.

Brianna watched as Lily stared at the tall man with such love in her eyes that it made her giddy. "Oh shit! My girl is in LOOOOVE!" she squealed, loud enough that practically the entire venue turned to stare at them.

Lily laughed and hushed Brianna, while also stealing quick glances and winks from Tom. "Maybe not in love quite yet, but definitely extremely happy. He is one of the only people in the world who just gets me, you know? With him, I feel like I don't have to fake anything. He's sweet, and funny, and caring, and I truly do feel like the luckiest girl in the world."
