Author's Pov:
Anu woke up early, today was her first day at her new school. As she got dressed and ready for school, her mind raced with multiple thoughts and emotions.
What would her new school be like? Would she make any friends?
Nah! She highly doubt that.
Well, would she fit in?
She shook her head to clear those thoughts, this one alone makes her sick to the core.
As she was packing her bag, she heard a knock thinking it was her mom, she turned around only to greet the sight of her so called father. The gentle smile vanished from her face upon seeing him at the door. Her father noticed her grimaced expression and tried to initiate a conversation.
"Hey, beta, how are you feeling today?" Anu shrugged, still annoyed with him for uprooting her from her old life, "I'm fine."
Her father sensed her nonchalant behaviour and tried to bridge the gap between them "Listen Anu, I know you're still upset about the move, but I want you to know that I did it for us. For our future."
Anu crossed her arms, her anger resurfacing "You always say that dad, but what about my future? You... You're the one who decided to leave India without even asking or discussing with me!" she asked him in her irritating yet polite voice even if she is angry she never raised her voice at anyone.
Her father sighed, his expression softening "I know I didn't ask you, but I did it to give us a better life. You'll see, beta, this is an amazing opportunity for us. You'll make new friends, learn new things, and grow as a person."
Anu raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "And what about my old friends? What about everything and everyone I left behind?"
Her father's expression turned gentle yet his voice sterned "Anu, even I had left everything" he took a pass while continuing, "Even your mom. We both left our 45 years of old life there, we left our parents and all those friends, relatives for what? For our future. For your future. You're not the only one who's suffering Anu. We're also suffering, but we're not complaining about it" his jaw clenched he needed to do this otherwise his daughter will never understand, "We need this right now. I know it's hard to leave things behind, but sometimes that's what we need to do to move forward. You'll always carry your memories and friends with you, but now you have the chance to create new ones" saying that he walked out of her room.
Anu looked away, still processing her emotions. She knew her father was trying to make her understand his perspective, but it was hard to see things from his point of view at this age when she felt like her whole world had been turned upside down.
"But.. but I don't want to" she muttered under a breath as she looked at the door her father went without even bothering to hear her response.
A sigh left her mouth as she took her backpack and left her room. She knew she had to try to make the best of this new chapter in her life, but it was hard to let go of the past.
After having breakfast her father drove her to school. She had always been a bit of an introvert, a worrier, and the thought of starting over in a new school that to in a new country intimidated her way too much.
What if she didn't make any friends? What if the teachers were mean? What if she got lost in the massive school building? What if she was the only Indian student in the school? Would she stick out like a sore thumb? What if there are bullies in this school? Her eyes slightly widened at that last one.
