SILAS POV/PERSPECTIVE:"Oh... Hello?" Sophie's mom flung the door open. It's been a couple of weeks since our visit to Jeremiah's holiday house, Soph and I haven't spoken much lately, we've kept our... Whatever we are, on a low profile at school, and around. I wanted to see how she was doing, but her mother greeted me.
"Hi, I'm-" I spoke. "I know who you are sweetheart, is this one of your pranks again? I know you and Sophie aren't the best of friends." Her mother Sherry cut me off, her head tilted to the left, her hand on the door and a confused look smudged onto her face. "Wow, not the best impressions I've displayed... No, it isn't. I was wondering if Soph was at home?" I asked, scratching my head. I've played numerous pranks on Sophie, but it was not the best. However, I don't regret it one bit. That girl used to make my brain itch, she still does sometimes.
"No she's not home at the moment, she's run off with a friend to do some errands. But if you like... Come in I'm just finishing off some cookies." She spoke, "Sure, I'll wait." I replied as we both walked in.
"So what brings you here Sinclair?" Sherry told me as we both walked to the kitchen. I sat on the kitchen island stool and looked around her home. "I guess, I wanted to see how your daughter is doing?" I replied. "My daughter, Interesting." Sherry spoke sarcastically as she went over and placed the dirty bowl of cookie dough in the sink as she started rolling up her sleeves. "Hey, I'll help out." I told her as I came beside her, "You sure honey? I wouldn't want you doing any chores around here. Sophie would kick me out of my own house." Her mother spoke, as she laughed and put the cookies in the oven. "It is no problem," I mentioned as I turned the tap on, and started scrubbing the dishes in the sink.
"How do you like your coffee, Silas?" Sophie's mother spoke, as I turned my head and saw her take out two mugs. "I think ice would suit this weather, if you have any. Thanks." I replied as I wiped my hands dry. "Great idea!" She spoke. Her mother looked just like Soph, but in an older version. Not only in looks but with her charisma. The way she spoke, the looks she'd make and how she interacted with others. It was freakishly similar. I mean after all, she is her daughter... And that is her mother.
We both sit on the couch with our coffees in our hands. It is not awkward... Just not usual. I mean having coffee with my arch nemesis' mother isn't exactly pictured, When you bring up the word nemesis. I mean I would not consider me and Soph people who hate each other anymore, I miss our annoying events, we sometimes show them. I mean... She and I are still the same humans after all. The same two people. "This is probably the time where I should bring out a picture album to embarrass Sophie... But I do not think we are on that stage together, Just yet." She gives me a smile as she sips the iced liquid out of her ceramic mug she holds onto. "You know, your father and I were high school sweethearts, Silas." Sherry spoke, I almost choke on my drink.
My father? The crazy one. The self-absorbed one? With this kind lady? With Sophie's mother! "What? Really." I replied as I placed my mug on the coffee table in front of us. "Maybe one day we can embarrass Sophie with her baby photos-" She laughed, I chuckled. "-but today... I can show you photos of your father back in the day. I mean if you'd like, It must be crazy to see him younger... And more different to how he is now." She spoke to me. "Sure." I replied. I was curious, and our parents? Together... High school sweethearts, Too!
She grabs a book out the coffee table, out of the draw she has opened. I snuck a peak and saw baby Sophie on a cover of a book before she closed the drawer and opened the book of which was titled "Class Of 1989."
Flicking through the pages, they all looked so happy... And that is when we stumbled across a familiar face. My father's, on a couple pages.
"Here is the man himself." Sherry chuckled as she pointed her finger to her and my father in the basketball gym. Him in his basketball uniform and her in her cheer outfit. My dad had his arm in the air, his mouth open as he looked like he was cheering. Sophie's mother had one arm around him and the other on his chest as she looked up to him, laughing. "Why were you guys so happy, the man is practically hip-hip hooraying!" I laughed as I asked. This caused Sherry to started laughing. "Ah Silas, Sophie is right. You definitely have a way of expressing your words." Sherry replied before she stopped laughing and said "This was the tie-breaker. The decider game of our senior year. Our last game, and we won. I remember shaking my pom-poms so hard my arms cramped up." She spoke, a smile plastered onto her face as she looked at the photo. "Wow, that seems cool. I wonder how he was like back then." I spoke. "Different. Sometimes I wish I had stayed with him and that I would not have ended up with my ex-husband. Saved my daughters all the damage." She sighed, before widening her eyes. "Oh I'm sorry." She told me "I should have not mentioned it."
She was talking about her lunatic ex-husband, He is in jail now. The one who stabbed her youngest daughter, who Sophie called the cops on... Using pressure upon her apple watch. She watched her sister be stabbed, tied up. Unable to help, but I wanted to tell Sherry that my dad was not any better, sure he does not stab, but he abuses. Verbally, sometimes physically. Before I knew it, it just came out my throat. "Don't wish, he has grown to be not to be the best. You have not missed out." I told her, "You looked just like how he used to. It's funny. I used to picture you and Soph together. However, you two have been at each other's throats since you both could talk." She started laughing. "Yeah we were, your daughter is special though. Even if she is annoying at times." I smiled before we heard someone unlock the door.
"It smells good! Mom! You baking something, cause damn woman... You! Can! Cook!" Sophie chants as she walks over to the kitchen with two bags on her arms. "Hello woman." Her mother stands up, telling her sarcastically as she takes the cookies out of the oven. "Silas?" Soph asks curiously, a small smile creeping up on her face. "Yes Silas is here, don't panic. We had some coffee, he even helped me with dishes. And we spoke about you!" She said jokingly as they both start to laugh. "Dishes huh, Great you can take my chores. Perfect!" Sophie teases me, putting down the bags.
"Well, Hello to you too." I tell her with a grin plastered onto my face, standing up I put the book back into the drawer, Sophie's baby face being exposed to me once again. I cannot wait until the day Sherry and I can sit, and embarrass Sophie. With those baby photos, one day at least.
SOPHIE'S POV/PERSPECTIVE:
I walk in to see Silas sitting on the couch, with my mother. They seemed to be having a cozy hangout. Although, I am very confused and have at least... A thousand questions which remain to be asked. "Hello." I take a seat next to him on the couch, we just look at each other. Smiles which remain visible to one another. Well Silas, had more of a grin look going on... I liked it?
I take his coffee off the table in front of us "Mhm, Iced coffee. Only my favourite!" I said giving him a tease smirk, before drinking out of his mug. His tongue hits the inside of his cheek as he bits his lip subtly. "Wow, way to treat a guest." He tells me sarcastically. The television playing in he background. "Well consider yourself special, this is the first I have drank out of a guest's mug." I told him, giggling! Our bodies touching as his right hand rests on my knee. I can't help but stare, two rings went though his middle and index fingers, as veins caught up one before another. I remember how those hands dealt with me that night, and I'm sure he did too.
"Distance, children!" My mother startled Silas and I, placing the freshly cut up cookies on the table, with laid on a pretty plate. A special plate. My eyes widen. "You've never seen cookies before, Soph?" Silas asked me. "Uh, no- I mean of course." I smile. My mother has placed the cookies on her great grandmother's Love Plate. This plate has signified throughout a century, that it is not meant to be utilised, nor eaten out of... Unless a mother sees fit to a boy with her daughter. The plate has not been taken out in decades. It's kept in our glass cabinet, cleaned everyday by Sherry. My mother gives me a cheeky smirk, as my face goes red.
"Wow, so have you both never seen a plate of cookies before?" Silas questions us, breaking the silence. My mother and I both start laughing. A lot, and some more... "Just you wait, boy." My mother tells him as she sits down. If the plate is used with a boy, that boy is not allowed to find out about it unless the daughter marries him. Unless I marry him. These are all written on the back of the plate, So if does the dishes again... We are doomed for tradition! This was funny, we stopped laughing and calmed down as we all began to eat the cookies placed in front of us.
