JossanThe music was pulsing through my body, the beat matching the rhythm of my heart as I danced with Brooke in the middle of the crowded club.
It was girls' night out, and we were determined to make the most of it.
Jossan: "I love this song!" I shouted over the music, throwing my hands up in the air.
Brooke laughed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Brooke: "You've said that about every song that's played!"
I grinned, spinning around in a circle.
Jossan: "That's because every song is amazing when you're having this much fun!"
We'd been at the club for hours, dancing and laughing and enjoying the freedom of a night out without any boys or drama to worry about.
Well, mostly without boys. I couldn't help but think about Mat every now and then, wondering what he was up to and if he was thinking about me too.
As if reading my mind, Brooke leaned in close.
Brooke: "You're thinking about him again, aren't you?"
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't hide my smile.
Jossan: "I don't know what you're talking about."
Brooke just laughed, shaking her head.
Brooke: "Sure you don't. Come on, let's get another drink. I'm dying of thirst over here."
We made our way to the bar, squeezing through the crowd of sweaty bodies. I leaned against the counter, feeling buzzed from the cocktails we'd been drinking all night.
Jossan: "Two more Sex on the Beach, please!" I called out to the bartender, flashing him my most charming smile.
He nodded, getting to work on our drinks. Brooke raised an eyebrow at me.
Brooke: "Sex on the Beach? Really? Could you be any more cliché?"
Jossan: "Hey, don't knock it till you've tried it. Besides, it's fruity and delicious and gets the job done. What more could you want?"The bartender slid our drinks over, and I took a long sip.
Jossan: "Mmm, perfect. See? Told you."
We made our way back to the dance floor, drinks in hand. As we danced, I could feel the alcohol really starting to hit me.
Jossan: "You know what we should do?" I said suddenly, grabbing Brooke's arm.
Brooke: "What?"
Jossan: "We should call Mat!"Brooke's eyes widened.
Brooke: "Jossan, no. That's a terrible idea. You're drunk."
I waved off her concerns.
Jossan: "I'm not drunk, I'm just... happy. Come on, it'll be fun! We can invite him to join us!"
Before Brooke could stop me, I'd already pulled out my phone and was scrolling through my contacts.
I found Mat's name and hit call before I could second-guess myself.
The phone rang a few times, and for a moment I thought it might go to voicemail. But then I heard his voice, and my heart did a little flip.
Mat: "missing me?"
I grinned, pressing the phone closer to my ear to hear him over the music.
Jossan: "Hey there, hockey boy. How's your night going?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
Mat: "It's... going. Are you at a club?"
I giggled, spinning in a circle as I talked.
