Suppose you were born in a world full of people who possessed super human abilities. Suppose the world's population came out with heroes who use their superhuman abilities to help people. Suppose people start making the title of "hero" into a profession, an institution, and then a competition to coincide with it. Suppose "Heroes" become just another cog in a system of power.
            Welcome to the year 2157.

Running was useful for many things. Mainly, it makes you sweat, most of the time. Cold weather and high wind might make you sweat less or make it dry faster, but you still sweat when you run. Running also breaks down your muscles and keeps them strong. They grow back bigger, and they grow back tougher.
Of course, Cody wasn't thinking about that as they were running. What they were thinking about was more along the lines of, "Where the hell is Crystal when you need her?!" Oh, and also the thought of not getting arrested or caught by the number three hero in Japan. Pretty big stuff to worry about while running, but some people find that therapeutic too, thinking and running.
Cody started to feel their hair coming undone, and they groaned out loud from it. They were just lucky the hairspray was strong, otherwise their mohawk would've been down about thirty minutes ago. The piercings were out too, thank the gods, otherwise Cody would've been dealing with clinking while they ran. It would've driven them insane. Oh, but running in a heavy battle jacket wasn't exactly practical, though they hadn't planned on a chase today sooo.. At least they were used to running in jeans and a tank top. The boots were already old, they were easy to run in just because they were old.
Cody looked backwards over their shoulder and saw Hawks was still trying to catch up on his own. Good. The feathers were still hightailing though and were almost about to reach the near-escapee. Cody just looked forward and brought their run up to a sprint.
"Damn it Crystal where there fuck are you?!" Cody yelled up into the air as they ran, causing several people to look their way on the actual sidewalk. Cody was narrowly avoiding cars, having to jump the hoods of a few. People were looking up more and more as they heard the noise, and utterly exploded when they saw hawks trailing behind some kid in the road. Cody rolled their eyes at all of it.
They looked back once more and saw the feathers coming right up on them. They freaked out and stumbled a bit, falling onto the pavement face first. They could feel the blood start to leak through their nostrils as they were lifted up by the back of their vest collar. Cody reached back for the feather, hearing wing flaps getting closer and closer.
"Crystal I swear I will fucking kill you-!" Cody didn't even get to finish before they were swept up by their vest collar. They looked up and saw a familiar face, smiling out of relief and gratitude. The face looked down, covered by a full face gas mask.
"Wha' was this 'bout killin' me?" An Australian, slightly deep, female voice came from the mask, sounding playful with its tone. Cody rolled their eyes at this woman in the mask, mohawk getting knocked around by the wind as she flew.
Crystal had a pair of black wings with white on the outer feathers, mimicking the pattern of a magpie. The rest of her really didn't match the bird theme, since she was just wearing a dyed-black flight suit.
Cody was swung up onto Crystal's back and grabbed onto her suit by the collar.
"You got your belt Crys?" Cody looked back, seeing hawks still hot on their trail. The red winged man looked frustrated as hell now with another pair of wings in the game. His feathers weren't quite fast enough either.
"Yeah mate! 's on my waist!" Crystal yelled to Cody through the mask, leaning up to claim some altitude in the air. Cody reached for the belt at Crystal's waists and unclipped it from underneath her with their free hand. When Crystal leveled out, Cody wrapped their legs around Crystals waist and secured them there with the belt. They'd wrapped the leather strip around Crystal and their own legs to keep secure.
"Alright, let's ghost this pigeon and regroup with Tsunagari!"
"With pleasure, eyebrows!" With that, Crystal flapped her wings hard and built her speed until she was actually starting to lose the number three hero behind her. Cody gave the red winged "pigeon" a middle finger before Crystal zoomed off into the buildings down below.

It had been a good ten minute chase through the air before Crystal had managed to lose Hawks for good. Cody had made sure no feathers were following them either. They were both hiding out and catching their breath in a narrow alleyway now, both leaning against walls opposite each other.
"Fackin' 'ell Eyebrows, you make me work don' yah?" Crystal breathed out, looking over at Cody through her gas mask.
"Every time you call me eyebrows, I double the work load." Cody looked back at Crystal, laughing a little at the end of their sentence.
Crystal reached up and removed her mask, revealing a plain looking face. Her hair was cut short in a very fine pixie, and it was a flattering platinum blonde color. Her eyebrows matched her hair, as well as her lashes, and her bright, chestnut eyes bore into Cody unconsciously. There was only one freckle on her face, right ok her left nostril. She was pretty nonetheless.
"Alrigh', guess I won't be callin' yah eyebrows fer a while then." Crystal crossed her arms over her chest at Cody who just smirked at the blonde mischievously.
"Eyebrows" had been Cody's nickname with Crystal since they'd met back two months ago. Cody always shaved their eyebrows off when they started coming in, and Crystal had quickly made it her mission to make fun of Cody for this every chance she got. Cody never minded the name, it was funny all around.
"M'kay. Let's regroup with Tsunagari back at bootcamp. We take the back-route, can't risk anymore chases today." Cody got a serious look on their face as they spoke, running a hand over their black haired mohawk subconsciously. It was loose, but down, so it was good enough.
Crystal gave a nod to Cody at the plan, and they both began to walk deeper into the alleyway together.
