Chapter 7

Dawn broke as soon as I had climbed to the roof of the school. I cleared the fences of walkers, and burned the bodies as to not risk an infection. My guitar was on my back and I sat with my legs hanging off the rooftop.

Gazing at the beautiful sunrise, I heard the birds start to sing in the trees. I sighed in content. This is the life, I thought. I sat there for a solid five minutes just marvelling at the beauty of nature. Why can't everyday be like this?

I pulled the instrument off my back and began to strum a tune. I stopped halfway through and sighed.

I pulled my knees to my chest and pondered life. I often did this, just thinking about anything and everything, from Why is this happening? to Will I live to tomorrow? to will I be able to find another Twinkie?

I heard the creaking of the wooden door below me. Glancing down, I recognised the brown of a certain blue-eyed boy's sheriff hat. Carl turned around, seemingly looking for something.

"Thalia?" He called out. I smirked. Ducking behind the air conditioning-thingy people have top of buildings, I shouted his name.

Peeking out of my hiding place, I saw his face contort in confusion. He did a 360-degree spin and turned back. I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from giggling. This was the most fun I'd had in months!

I was concentrating so hard in trying to be quiet, I didn't realise that Carl had seen me, and had disappeared.

(A/N: I was so tempted to end the chapter here but I'm not the king of trolls, Rick Riordan. Peace out to all my dam demigods who threw blue plastic hairbrushes at the Titan Lord and was judo-flipped by Annabeth Chase [I don't even know])

When I had finally calmed down, I noticed that either Carl had gained supernatural invisibility powers, or he had left my line of sight. I figured it was the latter. I walked along the roof and shouted his name questioningly. No answer (A/N yay I spelled it right for once!)

'Boo!' Shouted a voice behind me. Arms wrapped around my body and I yelped in surprise. Without thinking, my leg kicked backwards between my captor's legs. My detainer dropped me like hot coals and groaned in pain. I spun around to find Carl on his knees hissing.

' I'm so sorry! I didn't realise -agh! Stupid survival instincts ruining things!' I fussed.

'Calm down! It was an accident! I can see that you didn't mean it!' Carl laughed and grabbed my hands to stop me freaking out. I blushed strawberry red and attempted to pull my hands away. Key word attempted. His grip was like iron and my face burned like fire. I tried to pull him up, but somehow I ended up falling onto him.

A pinkish flush crept up his neck, crawled up to his ears and dusted his face in a crimson glow. My face burned like liquid sunlightI leaped up and apologies flew out of my mouth faster than
bullets from a gun. He silenced me with a wave of his hand.

'Dad said he would like to talk with you about how things (A/N thaaaaaannggs) work around here.' Carl stated awkwardly and rubbed his neck.

'Okay, I'll see you around?' I questioned.

'... Yeah, okay, see you around.' He mumbled, blush still evident on his face.

I turned around and headed to the exit. At the last moment, I turned back to him.

'Bye.' I called. He didn't reply.

I didn't see him for the rest of the day.
