The cold chill of midnight loomed over Auradon Prep and the students lay quiet, dreaming of golden sheep. The usually hot night was replaced with a ravenous wind most would think came with the new students. In the cover of the full moon, a girl, masked and shrouded in shadows, swung her sword around at the wind.
The shining blade flew through the air with force, a testament to the girl's recent surge in training the past month. Minnie had chosen this specific glade for her late-night training session because it was quiet as it was far away from Beast Castle - knowing her aunt would chastise her for staying out so late, especially in a forest - as well as a good mile away from Auradon Prep itself. The last thing she wanted was for one of her classmates to catch her.
Since Ben had asked her to be Princess of Auradon and Protector of the Realm, she had kept her training under wraps and away from the public eye. Truth be told there wasn't one particular reason but it was seemingly a by-product of the unintentional isolation she had put herself through.
Her choppy hair whipped across her masked face as she spun her body around, twirling in the air and kicking off rocks and mounds; her sword swinging at nothing in particular, in fact, she would make a conscious effort not to slice the trees and their leaves.
Minnie tried to be as quiet as she could, but couldn't help the small aggressive grunts that came from her lips, only suppressed by the metal mask.
However, she wasn't the only student out after curfew. Just before the moon came to its place in the Auradonian sky, another's grunts sounded throughout their new dorm.
A mixture of classic luxury and modern tech with its wide-screen TV, wood-panelled walls, dark plaid curtains, and a high ceiling, the boys' dorm was certainly an adequate space for the modern teenager. Carlos stood engrossed in a video game, flinging around the control like nunchucks as he battled the on-screen ninjas. He thought to himself 'If only this was real life.'
Jay, with his pockets stuffed full of belongings that certainly didn't belong to him, threw a handful of greasy fries he had been stashing, adding it to the ever-growing pile of items on his bed.
"Jay, what are you doing?" Mal asked, a sternness to her voice as she and Evie entered the room. She couldn't help but think how much better their room was than hers.
"Stealing," Jay replied with a glare in his eyes. Was that not obvious? They would go out stealing every day back on the Isle, surely she hadn't forgotten so quickly.
Mal eyed his pile which consisted of rings, tokens, purses, a watch and curiously half a pizza.
"What's the point?" The purple-haired girl asked.
Jay, with a grin, pulled a laptop from his jacket. "It's like shopping for whatever I want, but free."
"You could do that," Mal said, poking at the pile and grimacing at it. "Or you could leave it here and grab it later when we rule the world." She smiled widely, a mischievous smile that could only be achieved by the fae herself.
