Aria's POV

Aria's eyes wandered through the vast library, the warm glow of the mid to late afternoon sun casting a mystical ambiance on the rows of ancient tomes. She and Marley had been searching for answers for hours, but every new discovery only led to more questions. As she delved into her tale, her fingers drummed a staccato beat on the tabletop, a testament to the turmoil brewing within her.

Marley's eyes remained fixed on the book in front of him, his brow furrowed in concentration as he asked, "Earlier, you mentioned a 'lingering shadow.' What exactly did you mean by that, Aria? Your words were vague, but I sense there's more to it."

He paused, his gaze still locked on the page, his fingers drumming a slow rhythm on the cover. "You described it as if it was a presence that lingered, watching and waiting. I need to know what you felt, what you saw. Every detail is crucial in understanding what's happening to you."

Marley's voice was low and soothing, encouraging Aria to reveal more. His eyes never left the book, but his attention was fully focused on her. The air was heavy with anticipation, the silence between them thick with unspoken questions.

Aria's sigh was a soft whisper of frustration, her gaze lifting from the dusty pages of her book like a reluctant surrender. Her fingers began to dance across the tabletop, a nervous staccato beat that betrayed her growing unease. "My dreams last night," she began, her voice barely above a whisper, "were shrouded in an unholy darkness. Shadows chased me through the night, their presence suffocating, and that woman...she was everywhere. Lurking in every corner, watching me with cold, calculating eyes."

Aria's eyes fluttered closed, her brow furrowed in remembrance. "And then, this morning, I felt a chill that had nothing to do with the temperature. I sunbathe every day at the same time, and my body has always felt warm or mild at the most, but never cold, Marley. Never cold." Her voice trembled, her words barely audible. "And then, there was this...this thing with Tau."

As she spoke, the shadows in the library seemed to deepen, the silence between her words growing thicker than the dust that coated the shelves.

Marley's eyes never left hers, his gaze a steady anchor in the turbulent sea of her emotions.

"What happened to Tau?" Marley's voice was a gentle prod, coaxing her further into the labyrinth of her own mind.

Aria's eyes flashed defensively, her voice barely above a whisper. "Nothing, Marley. It could have been anything."

But Marley's eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing through the dusty air. "But you mentioned it, Aria. It must have struck you as odd, no?"

Aria slumped in the yellow marbled chair, her gaze lost in the vibrant hues of the mid-afternoon sunlight streaming through the crystal-clear windows. Her voice trailed off, her thoughts drifting to the tumultuous battle that had raged within her earlier that morning.

"I felt like.... I was fighting a war within my very core," she began, her words hesitant, as if unsure how to articulate the turmoil that had beset her. "I stepped out onto my balcony, a ritual I cherish every morning, but today, Tau was already there, lounging by the pool in all his naked glory." Aria's eyes rolled in exasperation. "It's not the first time he's done this, and I've lost count of how many witches in our coven have complained about his...extracurricular activities."

Aria's frustration was palpable, her voice laced with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief. "But today, it really got under my skin. I couldn't explain why, but my magic seemed to be in a state of mutiny. It was as if the power that had awakened within me, the foreign force I'd encountered in the forest, was still waging a battle against my own magic, even though she was long gone."
