june 6, 2020- flashback

it was graduation day, an exciting day for everyone. right now, the dance commitee was setting up everything for the ceremony in the auditorium.

cornelia was at home, getting ready for her big day. she quickly curled her hair, and then put on some light make up before she put on her dress.

she heard a knock on her door, before someone walked in. it was her dad, with her gown in his hands, because he had steamed her gown, to get out all the wrinkles.

she smiled, and took it from him. "thanks dad."

"i'm proud of you, lia." her dad said, before making his way to her window and just looking around.

she smiled, as her dad continued, "you know, your mom would do anything to be here with you, today."

she furrowed her eyebrows, "well, she should have thought about that, before she did what she did."

her dad nodded, "i know, i know. i'll see you downstairs, yeah?"

she nodded, and hung her gown up as he left. she sat down on the side of her bed, before she felt a tightness in chest.

'no, no, no, no. this cannot happen today.' she thought as she stood up, shaking her hands to try and 'snap out of it.'

the tightness in her chest grew, as her hands began to shake, and she felt weak at the knees. she sat against her door, trying to calm herself down.

she counted down from 10 like her therapist told her would help, but she kept messing up. she held her chest, struggling to breathe.

her mouth started to feel dry, and she gripped into the carpet, praying for the feeling to be over.

she counted to 5, then to 10, and then to 15. after a few minutes passed by, she could finally catch her breath. the shaking in her hands began to stop, and the only thing she could do was cry.

she cried, and cried, and cried. she couldn't figure out why it happened, and that frustrated her. she was beyond confused, and scared. she hadn't had a panic attack since freshman year, and it was still unfamiliar to her.

she heard her dad calling her, and she pushed herself back off the floor, "just a minute!" she called, wiping her tears away, and quickly fixing her makeup. she took a deep breath, before putting on her shoes, and heading downstairs.

paige sat in her mom's room, as her mom curled her hair.

"big day today, yeah?" her mom asked, wrapping a piece of hair around the curling iron. paige nodded, going on her phone.

she's scrolling on instagram, when she sees cornelia's stanford post. before she could scroll away her mom spoke, "is that lia?"

"yeah mom." paige sighed, turning off her phone.

"maybe you should invite her to your party tonight?" her mom said, grabbing the hair spray, and spraying her hair with it.

"no, mom. why would i do that?" paige said, getting up and putting on her shoes.

"well, you miss her don't you?" her mom asked, unplugging the curling iron, and putting in her earrings.

paige sighed, "she's better off without me mom."

paige sat, bouncing her leg, as she waited for the ceremony to end. seeing cornelia walk across the stage, set something off in her brain.

this could be the last time she ever saw cornelia, and she needed to apologize. apologize for all of it.

after the ceremony came to an end, paige immediately got up, and went to find cornelia.
she pushed through a big crowd of people, trying to navigate her way to the other side of the auditorium.

"cory." she said, walking up to her. cornelia tried to walk away, but paige grabbed her wrist.

"don't call me that." the brunette cursed, storming away into the hallway, as paige followed her.

"cornelia. please. give me 2 minutes." paige said, furrowing her eyebrows and looking down at the brunette.

"for what? lie to my face and apologize for your satisfaction?"

paige scoffs, "i'm sorry. for all of it. i was a dick, and i wish i could go back in time, and change things, but i can't." paige huffed, and waited for cornelia to speak.

"yeah, you were a dick. and you still are. saying sorry 3 years late isn't gonna cut it. you valued your ego and reputation over our friendship. goodbye paige, good luck at uconn. i'm really looking forward never seeing you again." cornelia said, turning around, and walking away.

paige stood there, with her jaw clenched. she didn't decide to follow her, there was no point, she already made up her mind.
