Waiting for the Sunrise

Chapter One

Tori POV

        "Today class we will..." last period of the day, Mrs.Ruth was one of those teachers you could never listen to because she was a drone. The endless lecture produced an unbearable ennui. All I could think about was going with Mason to Grandma's Diner, the one place I could actually feel secure. Ever since my mom passed away i've just felt so alone and in total darkness, but at Grandma's it's just my place of relaxation and I invited my best friend. "Hey,hey...hey!" Kaley shaking my arm out of my socket making me jump "what?" I said with an indignant tone "the bell rang I just thought you should know." And with that she took her leave. I began to gather the belongings that I had with me when Mrs.Ruth walks up to me and ask "are you alright? You haven't seemed like yourself lately it's not like you to just zoom out on me." Silently I laughed but I slowly say" i'm fine Mrs.Ruth just been a little tired." Little did she know how miserable I felt at home and how deranged my sleep schedule was. She slowly said "alright I'll see you tomorrow" as if she didn't believe me.
    
      I met Mason by his car ready to go I jumped in his cool black smokey jeep, which I had grown to love. Upon arriving to Grandma's I took a long needed deep breath letting all that worried and caused pain to cease and escape through a single breath. I hopped out of the jeep tripping over my ankles along the way. I had previously made a decision that I couldn't  be anymore clumsy than I already was. Mason waited at the opening of the diner laughing at my fail between getting out of the car and tripping over myself and i tell him "shut up" with the most serious tone I could muster up. We walked in and seated ourselves to the booth closet to the window because I love seeing how the weather relflects my mood and watching the everyday rotation move to different beats slow and fast. Betty greeted us right on time," hey guys what can I get for you today?" I was thinking ibprofen but precisely answered "the usual please" just thinking about the juiciness of that mouthwatering burger with the best thing ever bacon was making me starve that's not even the best part, but the cold creamy deliciousness of their world famous milkshake. I knew eating all this would take a toll on me later when I go to kickboxing but it's worth it. Mason ordered a patty melt and a milkshake as well. As we wait for the food to arrive he tells me about this show called cops and how the guy is talking to the cop and stops in the middle of the sentence and tosses his weed in the bush and runs and the cop not even a block is breathing as if he's not going to make another step before falling. I laughed so hard the milkshake oozing out of my nose, it was like a frozen iceberg flowing down stream . I couldn't have felt more embarrassed. I took a napkin and looked down hoping Mason couldn't see the hot red flush feeding to my face. All of a sudden he gets up and starts dancing to my favorite song uptown funk by Bruno Mars. When watching him I knew this would be a memory I would never forget.

     Later on he dropped me off and we said our goodbyes. As soon as I walk in all the worried and pain comes crashing down on me as I walk through the door "Tori! Where have you been?" My thoughts were how could she not know I left a message and the fact that I go everyday after school. This is the place where i'm downgraded to the dust on the floor where my dad is gone most times and my step mom ruins my life. "I told you where I was!" Was all I said because I didn't want another argument more like a war zone and to avoid such I ran as fast as my feet would allow and locked myself in I don't leave unless I need to, locking out all my demons and avoid the never ending nightmare that waits outside my door. The next morning I slipped out before my parents were awake and headed to the bus stop putting on the smile everyone knows me to have on, but knowing deep down the shadow of darkness has taken over and not a place where light shines. Hoping to avoid the one person who knows when i'm down and under I take the outside way but after 1st period he's waiting for me.
