Bailey

"You all have two more days to finish your assignments." Our art teacher, Emma, said as she walked around the room. "This Friday there will be an exhibition. I will select five of you to present your drawings there, so I insist you all polish what you've been doing for Friday."

"When will we know who gets the spots?" Tristan asked, and I curiously dragged my eyes to Emma, who stopped walking.

"You will choose amongst yourselves."

My eyebrows dipped, and so did many others in the room.

"There's the bell."

"We have no bell." Tristan pointed out, and I snickered as Emma blinked at him in slowly.

"It's the imaginary bell. Get out." She pointed to the door, and everyone started to pack their belongings to leave the room.

Instead of going straight back to the dorm, I headed towards Malik's department since I haven't seen him since the first day here, I just thought it would be nice if I paid him a friendly visit.

I didn't know much about the law department, but I knew where it was, and that was good enough.

As I made it to the door, I saw quite a lot of people leaving as well. Stepping aside, I allowed a few of them to pass before I started to go further into the room.

Unlike the art room, this one seemed more serious, not playful and free. The air was cold, too.

My eyes scanned the room, looking for Malik, but he was nowhere in sight. I stood there for a second, debating whether I should leave or stay for a few minutes in case he came back.

"Hey, are you looking for someone?" My eyes snapped to the new voice, and I found a girl of my height standing at least five feet from me.

"Yes, Malik?" I answered, and her eyebrows raised as she nodded.

"Follow me." She said and started to walk further into the room, which was surprisingly big. I followed behind her until she opened a door, smoke flowed off the room, and my nose scrunched at the unfamiliar smell. "He's in there. You can go in."

"Thank you." I said to the girl, and she nodded and then walked off, leaving the door wide open.

I entered the smoke filled room, and I thought a lot of smoke left the room, I was definitely not expecting so much to still be in there.

Squinting my eyes, I saw three figures behind all that smoke, and Malik's scent, which I had picked up on the first day, was present.

"Malik?" I whispered and waited for a response. It didn't come as quick, but eventually, he did answer.

"Yeah?"

None of the three figures moved.

"It's Bailey, um..can we talk?" I said a bit louder, and finally, one of the figures moved.

"Alright." I heard him say, and I nodded, the figure on the far right stood up. Malik walked towards me, and I turned on my heels, leaving the room with him behind me.

Spinning around, I saw him closing the door before pulling his sagging pants up a bit and neatly bringing the shirt over it. Once again, he was dressed in over sizes clothes.

"I haven't seen you for a couple of days, so I wanted to say hi." I said, and he dragged his low red eyes to me. He rubbed his chin with his hand for a second before sliding his tongue across his lips before he talked.

"Yeah, I've been around." He simply said, and I nodded.

Never did I once think about what comes after the hi. Do we talk some more, or do we just end the short conversation?
