"How is she?" Dabi stood by the hospital bed, watching Doctor Garaki sit in front of a computer, monitoring her vitals and other weird graphs he did not understand. Garaki spun the chair to face him, pushing his circular glasses up his nose.
"She's doing surprisingly well for someone who received a new quirk." Garaki mused, "I can't say she will remain stable in the future since she already had a quirk before."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Dabi raised an eyebrow. He heard a groan belonging to Yami, and his head snapped down to see her slowly sitting up. He adjusted the pillow behind her back, something inside him sighing in relief. Deep down, he was worried she'd go into a coma like he did after the incident in the mountains.
Yami looked up at him in puzzlement, the bags beneath her eyes heavy. She felt tired. She tried to remember why she was in the hospital. Her fist clenched around the sheets when she recalled All For One's hand on her head. It all came rushing back. The quirk transfer. The black fire. Toya helping her get the new quirk under control.
"Ah, you're up." Her attention turned to the short man standing with his hands behind him. She immediately recognised him as Doctor Tsubasa, whose name she learned was originally Kyudai Garaki when she joined the Death Dealers.
She remained silent as he patted his bushy moustache, "It's been a while, Hanae Yami. We met when you were five. Such a fragile thing you were." Garaki fell back into the chair with a chuckle, "I still remember the five red fingers on your cheek. Who'd thought such a little thing would grow up to be a woman who'd take her revenge on her own parents?"
"That's enough, old man," Dabi said firmly.
Garaki looked back at the monitor, noting that neither of her quirks had reacted to his words. He rolled the chair towards Yami, "Your quirks seem to be stable for now. As I was telling Dabi earlier, It might or might not remain like this in the future."
"Why not?"
"When a quirk is given to an empty vessel, it adapts with no problem, but giving a quirk to a vessel that already has one could shatter it." Garaki explained, "But I have a hunch it won't be much of a problem for you because your original quirk adapts to darkness, and your fire is dark."
Yami nodded, and Garaki hopped off the chair and towards the door, "You may leave after that drip is empty," he pointed to a bag of clear liquid on the IV pole, "I have other matters to attend to now. Mind you, visitors are not allowed. You're just here because you're an unofficial member of the League."
Yami seethed in the bed, narrowing her eyes at the doctor as he left. She shouldn't have gotten involved with the League. She was perfectly fine with the quirk she had, even if all it did was give her invisibility in the dark. She was doing grand with it, and All For One had to waltz in and give her a quirk she never asked for. Sure, she told Shigaraki that he'd have to pay her back, but this was not what she was expecting.
