"Jaxson! Thanks for waiting for me. I need to talk with you during training today. You think you could make some time in between drills?" Jaxson looked surprised at first, since he thought you would know he takes the training seriously and would not dare to be interrupted for something other than the task at hand. You had a look of sincerity in your eyes and he knew it had to be more important than whatever drill you guys would be going over for the 100th time.
"You know I don't like to do this... But I will if you really need to talk. If we go to the mountain spot, I'll sit back left. River spot, front right." You thanked him and continued to walk as the majority of the group decided which spot would be better. To you, the river spot would definitely have the bigger advantage as it was further away from the town and the nearby kingdoms, but of course they chose the mountain spot for some more endurance training. The walk wasn't going to be that long considering how far you already walked so far, but looking at Jaxson for a second while walking made you reminisce on how you both met in this training group and became friends.
You met Jaxson Chastain for the first time during one of the drills in the beginning when you weren't paying good enough attention. It was about a month since your arrival and you were finally admitted into the warrior group after some lengthy convincing. Everyone was still a stranger to you, and even more so scary once the news of the missing princess hit the town. You quietly asked him for help on how to complete the attack move, as everyone else gave off the vibe of ignoring you completely as they didn't know you. He, however, was relaxed and made you feel normal around him. Maybe not a friendly guy still but at least open to conversation with a stranger fighting the same battles as him. He answered your question and extended his help to you if you ever needed it again. Obviously you took him up on that and learned a few things, and could finally say you had a friend in the town.
Jaxson was a nice guy but definitely not from around the two kingdoms known to you. That was obvious from the way he acted. He mentioned he was from way up north in another smaller kingdom. He didn't bother to mention the name as it wouldn't hold much value to you anyway. He stated that he left because the king himself chose Jaxson to be a roaming warrior almost? It is still unknown the real motive but Jaxson was happy to see new places. He described his living conditions there nicely even though they sounded anything but nice. It was like Ethereal but the citizens had a less... expansive ruler. The king preferred to keep to himself and the kingdom he had which at least let everyone eat and have a roof over them, ignoring the fact that all other basic dignity and rights were being stripped away. Still, it gave you a good reminder that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of things. He did know of other good neighboring kingdoms to that one though, and recommended you go see them sometime.
That's exactly what you wanted to ask about.
"Listen, Jaxson. I need information and a safe path to get to where you came from, or truthfully, anywhere that isn't here. I can't stay here anymore. I'm scared to be here. Plus, my parents wanted me to find a better life somewhere else." He nodded towards the end, agreeing with the notion that it was good to follow the advice of your parents and seek a better life. The part that stuck with him was why you were doing it. He didn't like the fact you felt unsafe and especially if it was because of another person.
"Scared to be here because of what? You know if it's someone specifically here bothering you, you can always go to the elite warriors and ask them for help." You shuttered slightly at the thought of trying to go to the people you were trying to get away from for help. It was strange to have to explain that to someone, and as you looked around momentarily, you stopped walking a little bit to really make sure no one else was nearby before you continued.
