As Lucas walked away from outside the library , he felt like he was stuck in a whirlwind. The conversation with Aaron and Jackson had left him reeling, his mind racing with thoughts of the two people who had captured his heart, telling him to work together . The SoulMate app, which was supposed to bring him love and connection, had instead turned his life into a mess. He couldn't shake off the feeling of being torn . His family life was another situation altogether. He wondered how his twin, Logan, was doing. Luckily, Lucas had finished all his classes for the day, and he was looking forward to going home to clear his head. As he walked through the crowded corridor, Lucas felt like he was on autopilot. He passed by clusters of people, his eyes fixed on everywhere . his mind still reeling from the events of the day. He quickened his pace, his feet carrying him towards the solace of his home.

As Lucas walked into the house, he was greeted by the sound of his mom's voice on the phone. She was chatting with her friend, and Lucas could tell she was wrapping up the conversation. "We should catch up later, I've got to go, my son just got home," she said, before hanging up the phone. Lucas's mom turned to him, a warm smile on her face. "Hey, sweetie! I thought you had a study group today with your friends?" Lucas's heart skipped a beat as he tried to hide his emotions. He didn't want to burden his mom with his problems, not when she was already dealing with her own marital issues. "They're not really my friends, Mom," he said, trying to sound casual. "They just use me for themselves, and I'm better off without them." Lucas's mom raised an eyebrow, concern etched on her face. "What do you mean, honey? You've been friends with them for years." Lucas shrugged, trying to downplay the situation. "It's just not the same anymore, Mom. I need some space." His mom nodded, but Lucas could tell she wasn't buying it. She knew him too well. "Okay, sweetie. Well, how was your day otherwise?" Lucas forced a smile, trying to change the subject. "It was fine, Mom. Just tired from classes." His mom nodded, but Lucas could sense her eyes on him, searching for any sign of trouble. He knew she'd let it go for now, but he also knew she'd be keeping a close eye on him.

Lucas's mom asked, "Have you made any new friends, then?" Lucas's heart skipped a beat as he hesitated, itching to tell his mom everything about the SoulMate app, Aaron, and Jackson. But he remembered the promise he made to himself to keep it silenced, at least for now. "I'm not sure if I can trust them, Mom," he said, trying to sound nonchalant. But as he spoke, the words began to tumble out of him, fueled by the stress and emotions that had been building up inside. "It's just...after Dad died, and Logan...my twin brother...he was always there for me, he protected me, showed me who my real friends were. But after he passed away, those so-called friends just used me for their own gain. They didn't care about me, they only cared about what they could get from me." Lucas's voice cracked as he spoke, the pain and anger still raw. His mom's expression softened, and she reached out to him. "Lucas, I haven't fully told you the truth about what happened on that day," she said, her voice gentle but firm. Lucas's heart stopped. What did she mean? What secrets had she been keeping from him? He felt a mix of emotions: curiosity, fear, and a sense of betrayal. "What do you mean, Mom?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Lucas's mom took a deep breath, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and determination. "I guess it's time I told you the truth, Lucas," she said, her voice trembling. Lucas's heart skipped a beat as he sensed that something was wrong, something big. His mom's words were like a punch to the gut. "Your father and brother aren't dead," she said, the words hanging in the air like a challenge. Lucas's mind reeled, his thoughts frazzled and confused. "What? How? Why aren't they here?" he stuttered, his voice shaking with emotion. His mom's eyes filled with tears as she took another deep breath. "Your father cheated on me, Lucas. And your brother...he's unconscious in the hospital." Lucas felt like he'd been punched in the gut. "Why did you tell me they were dead?" he demanded, his anger and hurt boiling over. "It's more complicated than that," his mom said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Explain," Lucas said, his voice cold, his heart heavy with emotion. His mom took another deep breath, her eyes flashing back to a memory. "Do you remember that trip to the carnival, where we split up because you wanted to go home, and we walked while your dad and brother drove the car home?" Lucas nodded, the memory flooding back. "But the car was in an accident, and the police report said your father and brother were dead," his mom continued, her voice cracking. "But I found out that your father was alive, and he left the scene of the accident, leaving your lifeless brother behind." Lucas felt like his world had been turned upside down. His father, the man he thought was dead, was alive? And his brother, his twin, was in the hospital, not dead? The lies, the secrets, the pain...it was all too much to process.

Lucas's mom continued, her voice still shaking with emotion. "Your father made the neighborhood police write that he was dead, but he wasn't. Your brother was found at the scene of the accident and taken to the hospital." Lucas's mind was reeling, trying to process the lies and secrets that had been kept from him. His mom's eyes filled with tears as she looked at him. "It took me some time to understand it all as well, but I didn't want to tell you like this. I'm sorry, Lucas." Lucas took a deep breath, trying to calm down. He looked at his mom, seeing the pain and guilt in her eyes. "You did the right thing, Mom," he said, his voice softening. "When can I see my brother?" he asked, his heart aching to see his twin, to hold him, to talk to him. His mom nodded, a small smile on her face. "Soon, Lucas. Soon." Lucas's eyes narrowed, his anger and hurt still simmering beneath the surface. "I don't really care about my dad," he said, his voice cold. "I just want to see my brother. He's all that matters to me." His mom nodded, understanding in her eyes. "I know, sweetie. I know."

Lucas's mom opened her arms, and Lucas walked into them, embracing her in a tight hug. The hug was meaningful, a symbol of their love and trust in each other. As they held each other, Lucas felt a sense of comfort and security wash over him. His mom's words of wisdom and encouragement were like a balm to his soul. "Try to make friends, Lucas," she said, her voice soft and gentle. "And if you try to give an honest hand, don't be afraid to do so. But if you realize they're not good friends, leave them and make new ones. Your dreams and hopes will be fulfilled when the time is right." Lucas nodded, feeling a sense of determination rise up within him. He would try, he would make an effort to connect with others, to find people who truly cared about him. He would be cautious, but he would not give up. "I will, Mom," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "I'll try." His mom smiled, her eyes shining with pride and love. "I know you will, sweetie. And I'll be here to support you every step of the way."

Lucas's eyes widened in surprise as his mom dropped the bombshell. "I'll be dating other people soon, once I'm healed from your father," she said, her voice firm but hesitant. Lucas felt a mix of emotions: shock, concern, and a hint of curiosity. His mom was moving on, and he was happy for her, but he couldn't help but wonder about the SoulMate app. "Do you think I should use the SoulMate app?" she asked, her eyes searching for his opinion. Lucas hesitated, unsure of what to say. He had his own experiences with the app, and he wasn't sure if he wanted his mom to go through the same thing. But at the same time, he wanted her to be happy, to find someone who loved and cared for her. "Mom, I don't know," he said, choosing his words carefully. "I've had some...issues with the app myself. But if you think it might help you find someone special, then maybe it's worth a try." His mom nodded, a thoughtful expression on her face. "I'll think about it, sweetie. Thanks for your honesty." Lucas nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. He was glad he could be honest with his mom, and he hoped that she would find what she was looking for, whether it was through the SoulMate app or not.
