B L A I R
“I’m so glad you could make it,” Anastasia, the current CEO of CS Tech, beamed at me happily as I sat down on the chair across hers. We were currently inside her shop, Blossom and Bows, after I called her yesterday asking to meet with her and discuss certain matters that had occurred over the past few days.
It had already been two weeks since the Rocco incident. I’d already gotten my stitches out and my wound is healing. Though, it still stings occasionally, but it’s nothing I couldn’t handle.
“So, what brings you here today?” She asked, crossing her leg over the other as one of her employees brought us two cups of coffee.
I cleared my throat, “I just wanted to personally ask for forgiveness for whatever problem my worker caused. I assure you, I’ve already handled the problem and my engineers are now working on the cars. We’ve also ordered new raw materials and made sure there are physical copies of the receipts in case something similar happened again.”
Anastasia nodded at me, taking a long sip of her coffee. When she placed the cup back down onto the table in front of us, something I couldn’t quite decipher glinted in her eyes. It was almost like she knew something I didn’t, and that irked me to no end.
“I understand, Blair. Things happen…” she drawled, a smirk playing on her lips as one of her eyebrows suddenly raises.
I narrowed my eyes at her, fumbling with my necklace as I leaned back on the chair. “Am I missing a joke here? Or are you just really too happy to see me?” I teased, though, doubt and wariness still laced my tone.
She chuckled silently, shaking her head. “It’s nothing… I’m just wondering why you didn’t let your boyfriend in.”
I almost choked on my own spit right there and then.
My what?!
“I don’t have a boyfriend.” I defended, my tone laced with firmness, my face set into a hard line.
It had been a year since I was last seen with a man — which was all over the headlines of tabloids and gossip papers. I haven’t even hooked up with anyone ever since my unfortunate break-up with Ryan.
Ugh, even his name brought bitterness to my own tongue. I caught the bastard cheating on me during our two-month long relationship. I figured he was only ever with me because of the attention my name had, and seeing me with him solidified his position in his circle of friends — who were, by the way, just as bitchy as him.
“Really?” Anastasia faked her surprise. “Then, who’s the man you came with?”
I turned to look at Adam who stood by the front door of the shop, glaring at the people who walked down the street as if they did something to horribly offend him. Though, it seems like most things offended him — which was completely understandable if you were given a job to guard someone 24/7 and is required to keep his guards up at all times.
I reverted my gaze back to Anastasia and pinned her with a hard look. “That’s my bodyguard.”
“Really? I thought he was a lover, since, it seemed like he can’t take his eyes off of you.”
“What? That’s not—” I turned to look at Adam again, this time, his attention was all on me. It was as if the first time I observed him standing before the front door, he’d been prepared to look away, making sure I couldn’t catch his gaze. But this time, he was caught off-guard and didn’t have enough time to look away, “—true…”
