Neil watched her go, impressed by her confidence and curious about their brief conversation. He then turned back to Naina, who had been watching the interaction with interest.
"What's cooking, bro? Is something special happening?" Naina asked, wiggling her eyebrows mischievously.
"Shut up, Dimpi. There's nothing like you think. She seems like a nice person. I didn't sense that kind of vibe around her," Neil replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
"Okay, Bunty, I agree. By the way, she is very pretty, right?" she said, playfully tapping his shoulder.
"Dimpi, I've told you many times, don't call me Bunty in college," Neil retorted, clearly irritated.
"Then why did you call me Dimpi? Huh?" Naina teased back. "Bunty."
Neil sighed and lightly tapped her on the head. Naina hit him back, and soon, they were playfully fighting. Yash, one of their friends, saw them and came over.
"You two again? Look, everyone's staring at you," Yash remarked, trying to diffuse the situation.
Neil and Naina glanced around, but most of the people were gone.
"Looks like everyone went for dinner. If I don't go now, I'll miss out. You both come along slowly," Naina said hurriedly, running off before they could argue further.
"Bukkad," Neil chuckled, shaking his head at Naina's antics.
"Bhai, look, she left her trophy here carelessly," he noticed, picking up Naina's trophy and handbag from a nearby chair.
"Pass me her things, I'll carry them. You grab your stuff," Yash offered, helping Neil gather Naina's belongings.
______________________________________The hall was alive with laughter and conversation as everyone enjoyed their dinner. The aroma of a variety of cuisines lingered around the hall.
Trisha and Neeta finished their meal and headed towards the ice cream counter, situated a bit away from the crowd near the entrance of the hall.
Trisha picked butterscotch ice cream while Neeta chose vanilla. As they returned to their seats, Trisha accidentally bumped into someone wearing a blue shirt, splattering ice cream on them.
"Oh God," Trisha exclaimed, looking at the person she had bumped into. It was Neil, who had just entered the hall.
"Neil... I'm really sorry. I didn't do it intentionally," Trisha said, her expression filled with worry and guilt.
She took her kerchief from her clutch and offered it to him. He stepped back slightly to maintain distance and politely said, "That's okay, Trisha. You can go. I'll clean this up."
She remained standing there, looking upset. He glanced at her.
"Miss, it's okay. You both can go," Neil said to Neeta.
Neeta nodded, gently guiding Trisha away.
"Miss, wait," he said. They both looked at him.
He moved to the ice cream counter and took a butterscotch bowl for her. He handed her the bowl and said, "Have it without worries."
He then moved forward along with Yash.
Trisha felt bad, watching Neil.
"Why do I always create blunders wherever I go?" she regretted inwardly.
______________________________________Neil was wiping the splattered ice cream with a tissue.
Yash looked at him, puzzled. "What's up, bro? Why are you staring at me like that? What's going on?"
"I've known you since college, and you never let anyone touch your stuff. If someone messed with your things, you'd go crazy and make them feel awful," Yash said.
"But today, you're different. You stayed calm even though your favorite shirt got ruined. And then you bought her another ice cream."
"You supported her on the field before, and now this. What's going on? I know you can't like her."
"She's not really your type, and honestly, she doesn't seem to match up in style. Then what happened to you?" Yash added.
Neil listened quietly, not saying anything.
"Yash, everyone will be waiting for us in the hall. Shouldn't we head out?" Neil calmly suggested.
Yash looked at him. "Yeah, come on, it's getting late," Neil said, urging him to move.
