The race was finally over as Oscar pulled back into his garage, fourth place, not too bad but not as good as Lando who made it to the podium at third, Oscar was proud of Lando but bummed out about his own results, podiums always felt so close but so out of reach.
Oscar pushed himself out the car with a audible wince, a throbbing pain behind his eyes like a drum beating in his skull, sending a shiver down his spine. The engineers shot him skeptical looks as he stood still for a minute, hands gripping tight on the side of the car as he inhaled deeply, trying to block out his growing headache. He dropped out of the car, nodding to the engineers who brushed his actions off as usual annoyance when missing out of a double podium.
Finishing up with the weighing, he removed his helmet and balaclava, his brown hair dripping with sweat as he ran a hand through it, pulling it out of his face. He wanted to find Lando, he needed to congratulate him.
Wondering out of the garage, the sun pierced through his skull, irritating his headache, making the pain even worse and causing a dizziness to consume his body as he tripped over his own feet, stumbling before regaining balance as he reached for the closest stabiliser, his fingers digging into the wall he found himself leaning on. Again he breathed slowly, his chest rising and falling silently before he felt confident enough to begin walking once more.
Oscar spotted Lando who seemed to be immersed in a very exaggerated conversation with Max, both talking rapidly, their hands moving to explain whatever it was they were talking about. The aussie was going to turn back before a sharp pain lodged in his head, he let out a breathy yelp as he clutched to the metal fence, trying to keep himself up right as his head throbbed.
"Woah mate you ok?" A voice called to Oscar, he kept his eyes shut tightly, trying to protect himself from the beaming sun.
"Yeah." His voice was hoarse and came out as a whisper, not daring to worsen his pain. Even with his eyes closed he could sense Lando's expression, his eyebrow raised sarcastically, not believing a word Oscar said, though he wouldn't have believed himself.
"Lando-." Oscar managed to mumble out before collapsing to his knees, a pair of arms quickly wrapped around him before he slipped out of consciousness.
The room was dark and freezing when Oscar finally came to, his brain foggy and throbbing, unable to string a single thought other than,
"Ouch."
He forced himself up with a grimace, leaning against the bed frame as he squinted around the room trying to figure out where he was. It was a hotel room, similar to his own but small things seemed to be different, the clothes strewn over the floor, the suitcase in the corner, it wasn't his room but it was the same hotel. He began to believe he was in some rando's hotel and panick trickled in.
That was until he spotted an orange shirt in the pile of clothes.
Papaya,
Mclaren..
Lando.
On the side table sat a cup of water and two small white tablets, Oscar's was suddenly aware of the piercing pain that stabbed like knifes in his head. With a shakey hand he lifted the cup to his lips, taking slow, deliberate gulps before picking up the medicine and dropping them down his throat with another swig. The door opened with a creak, a silhouette, back lit in the door way.
"Lando..?" Oscar groaned, his voice breaking as the shadow figure moved into the room, placing a bowl of orange liquid, seemingly soup, on the nightstand.
"Im right here mate." Lando's voice was slow and soothing as he sat on the edge of the bed. "You look like shit." He laughed, pressing a hand to Oscar's forehead, the gentle touch causing a blush to creep over his cheeks.
"I feel like shit." He grumbled as Lando moved his hand from Oscar's forehead and into his hair, brushing the sweaty mess out of his face, his fingers lingering as they drift down to his cheek before pulling away.
"Eat." Lando gestured towards the bowl which Oscar stared at for a moment before turning back to Lando.
"I think I might vomit.." He looked up at the brit with big puppy eyes, his mouth curling into a frown as he shivered.
"Osc you need to eat, even a little." He grabbed the bowl and placed it onto Oscar's lap who unwillingly took the spoon, sipping slowly. The mush warmed his stomach, slowing the shivers. He ate half before deciding it was enough, Lando nodded, happy he ate anything at all before moving the bowl back to the nightstand.
"Is there anything you need?"
"No its okay..Im sorry for all this." Oscar's voice was quiet, bearly a whisper as his eyes dropped down into his lap, fiddling with the hem of the blanket.
"Shut up." Lando scowled fakely, before moving himself next to Oscar, their shoulders brushing against each other. "You're sick, let me help." The words made Oscar smile dumbly, it meant alot to him, being looked after and all.
His brain fog hid his logical reasoning as he slowly slumped against Lando, his head resting against the brits shoulder. Lando now more aware of Oscar's shivering as he felt it on his body, quickly he wrapped an arm around the aussie, pulling him closer against his body warmth.
"I can get you another blanket, or a jumper?" The brit offered, his head turned, buried in Oscar's hair.
"..Don't leave." The Aussie mumbled. The pain meds hadnt set in yet, and it was sickening, as tears welled in his corners of his eyes. He let out a sad sniffle as the tears began to roll down his cheeks.
"Woah mate whats wrong?" Lando's voice was filled with worry as his free hand snaked around Oscar's chin, forcing their eyes together. "Osc, talk to me."
"It hurts so fucking bad." He whimpered, "And Im so cold.." Lando nodded slowly before sliding off the bed.
"Im not leaving, Im right here okay." He spoke as he moved around the room, pulling a jumper off the floor and bringing it around to Oscar. Gently, he helped Oscar pull it over his head, the smell of Lando's cologne sharp in Oscar's nose. Sliding back into the bed the brit carefully pulled Oscar, laying his head onto his chest. Lando's body warmth spread to Oscar as he laid tucked into his side.
"Thanks." Oscar spoke muffled by Lando's shirt as he slowly drifted to sleep, Lando's hand drawing soothing circles on his back.
