Chapter 16

CatNap POV:

"Kickin', I choose Kickin'." I said out loud. "Hmm... very well. Don't forget, he's located on floor 8 in room 845. Oh, and also, I started a 5 minute timer on both bombs and it started going down ever since you chose who to save. Better get running." Oh shit!!! I ran up the stairs as fast as I could and ignored any fatigue that tried to stop me. Eventually, I reached the room Kickin' was in.

Kickin' had tears running down from his face, his eyes were red, and his breathing was unstable. "Don't worry Kickin', I'm gonna get you out of here!" I said with a worried smile. I was determined to get him out of here.

"Wait, what did they say the code was? A four digit number that I very much know?" I thought. I put in the year of my birth, 200X. I waited about five seconds before the screen on the bomb flashed red. "Uh oh, you got the number wrong, dumbass! Only two more attempts and four minutes left!" The individual on the intercom said.

I thought long and hard, then thought of another idea. Even though I didn't want to, I put in the year Jordan was born, 199X. After another five seconds, it flashed red again. "Are you trying to get yourself killed now? Damn, guess you are as dumb as he says you are." The one on the intercom said. "Wait, that's it!" I thought with an open smile.

I put in the year that Adeline was born in, 199X. I waited for five seconds, then the light flashed green. Everything went quiet, it was so quiet that I didn't even hear the ringing in my ears. "C'mon Kickin', there should be like, three minutes left, we can still save-" I was cut off by a loud explosion coming from downstairs. The building slanted a bit and both me and Kickin' fell from the sudden and unexpected change.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. I programmed the bombs where if one gets defused, the other one explodes. So no matter what, one of them would have been killed. It's your fault CatNap, you just killed Picky. I hope you're satisfied with your decision."

DogDay POV:

"CatNap has been gone for a bit, I hope he's alright." I thought while twiddling my thumbs on the couch. I saw Sergio run down the stairs with a smile. After all the shit he's been through, how on earth can he still look and act so innocent?

"Hey, are you alright?" He asked me while he sat down on the couch. "CatNap has been gone for what feels like hours, maybe days. I hope he's alright." Sergio looked a bit sad, then gave me a warm smile. "Do you want me to get you anything to make you feel better?" He asked me. "Can you get me a glass of water?" "Sure thing!" He said happily, then skipped off into the kitchen. After he gave me the water, he told me that he's gonna make a meal for me, him, and CatNap once he gets back.

After I drank a little more than half the water that was in my glass, I heard the doorbell ring. I told Sergio that I was going to get the door and he said okay. I opened the door to see CatNap with Kickin', they both looked miserable. "Who was the girl?" I asked CatNap. "The girl was Picky." He replied. I hugged Kickin' and CatNap, happy that they were alright and alive.

After a few seconds, I let Kickin' inside. When CatNap tried to get inside, I didn't let him. "I need to speak with you, privately." I tell him. He replied with a nod and sat down on one of the benches just next to the front door. I closed the door and sat next to him.

"Tell me what happened at the hotel." I asked him. He then told me everything that happened. When he got there, the individual on the intercom, how they had info about him and the friend group, and the bombs. He told me everything.

"So there was no way to save both anyway?" I asked him. "Looks like it." "I'm sorry that you had to go through that baby." "I think I know who did this." "Who?" "Jordan's girlfriend, and she got help from him." "Can you at least tell me what her name is?" "Her name is Adeline." "Alright, so Adeline received help from Jordan in this whole situation?" "Yeah. The way I heard her phrase things on the intercom immediately gave it away." "You could tell it was her just by the way she phrased things?" "Mhm." "Well, that's cool, I guess." "Can we go inside now?" "Sure."

CatNap and I go back inside to smell amazing food being cooked up in the kitchen. I looked at Kickin' in the kitchen. Looks like he's recovered enough where he could be smiling and being able to have a good time.

"So, what're we having tonight?" I asked Sergio. "Burgers and spaghetti, my top favorite foods!" He said happily and excitedly. I swear to god, Sergio is a literal child inside. "Sounds good to me." CatNap said to Sergio, then sat down at the dining room table, waiting for the food to be done.
