"I'm Eric one of you're leaders. If you want to enter Dauntless this is your way in. And if you don't have the guts to jump...you don't belong in dauntless" Eric says to the crowd of us. I try my best to listen but the pain in my elbows and knees from jumping of that fucking train is killing me. I've been through worse but it still hurts.
"Is there water or something at the bottom?" A boy from erudite says.
Eric was of course quick to respond with something annoying like always. "I guess you'll find out. Or not?" He took a deep breath as he looked over at us. We locked eyes as he said "Someone's gotta go first, who's it going to be?" His instance look made me shiver.
Everyone looked at each other like they were going to let us hit rock bottom down there. I know them. They would never.
Fuck it. I took a few steps forward to Eric. I looked back at Matilda as she stood there shocked. What's the big deal.
"Okey Agnes..go for it" he said smiling softly at me.
I took a step up to the edge of thebuilding. I looked down at a hole at the bottom. It was black. You couldn't see a shit. I felt my heart beating faster and faster. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I'm not usually this scared of highs but this is an exception. I counted to 3 in my head and took a small step out. My heart skipped a beat as I flew through the air. Then I suddenly hit the what felt like a trampoline as a bounced up and down a few times. Looking around I was on a net, in what looked like the corridor of the compound. The fact that I didn't know this massive hole was there makes me question myself. Relief filled my body again as I saw Four standing at the end pulling on the net that I just landed on.
"Agnes what a surprise" he said ironically.
I let out a small giggle as he carried me down by my waist.
"So you wanna change your name? You know you can't change it back again if you do?"
"I know I know..." I say as my eyes roll at him. He acts like I have no clue. "Keep mine"
"Okey. First jumper Agnes Zane"
Just as I started to walk over where the other instructors told be to go I hear a familiar scream. Matilda. I looked over to my right seeing her small body laying in the net.
After a few minutes Eric had jumped down. I guess he was last. He helped himself down in confidence.
"Dauntless born go with Lauren and the transfers stay here with me" four said loud and clear.
