PLEASE NOTICE— CHAPTER EIGHT.

The party at Amber's house grew pretty quickly.

The teens in Woodsboro know how to do one thing: party.

Violet arrived late, the party had already started by the time she got there. Her first instinct was to head to the kitchen and pour a drink, so she flittered there instantly.

Besides, she was trying to keep out of Liv and Chad's way as much as possible. It wasn't that difficult seeing as Chad was pretty much avoiding Liv, but Violet still didn't care to deal with any of the girls antics tonight.

Violet was leaning against the counter in the kitchen, coating her tongue with the rough liquid when Chad decided to make an announcement.

"Hey!" Chad calls everyone to attention, raising his shot in the air for cheers. "To Wes!"

"To Wes!" The teens of Woodsboro echoed out, raising their glasses in his honor.

Violet quickly threw hers back, whispering silently to herself. She couldn't believe her brother was gone.

"Beautiful son of a bitch." Chad threw his back with a grimace, trying to hide the pain on his face.

Violet knew the boy better than that though, she could see through his facade. She could tell that Wes's death was affecting him, even if he'd tried to push away his own pain to help her.

"Shots, really? This is supposed to be a memorial." Amber groaned, taking the shot class from his hand and slamming it down.

Violet watched the two. It was the first reasonable thing Amber had said all day, yet she was the one who threw the party.

"Well, this is how I mourn and distract myself from the looming specter of death." Chad jokes. The seriousness in his voice worrying Violet.

She watched the interactions curiously, trying to ascertain what to do about the situation. Chad was friends with Wes too. They had all grown up together. And if he spent the afternoon picking her up—even while she was crying over Wes's body— then, she could check in on him too.

After careful thought, Violet shifted through the crowd, making her way over to her friend. He had turned around, already surveying the rest of the room as the other party attenders carried on.

Violet put her hand on the boy's shoulder, gently getting his attention and whispering into his right ear. "Are you okay?"

Chad turned to look at the girl, following the arm on his shoulder. Finding the girls face littered by an expectant question. His brows quickly crinkled together, "What?"

"I asked if you were okay." Violet draws out, voice dropping in confusion. He hadn't seemed to hear her.

"Oh, sorry I didn't hear you. You must've been too far away." Chad adds, fully facing the girl with an open stature. "I'm okay, though. Just gotta get through all this bullshit."

Violet—who was glad to hear he was okay— was still stuck on his first statement.

Chad couldn't help but stare at the dumbstruck expression on her face, the one she held when she was deep in thought.
