When I woke up I was suprised to see that the clock on my bedside table read 1:15. I had slept almost the whole day. For the first time I hadn't dreamed. I had been so exhausted I don't think my brain could have dreamed if it wanted to. I climbed out of bed and made my way to my closet. I decided to dress casual because there was nothing planned. I wasn't due to start school till next week. Evelyn had to get all the paperwork in order. I grabbed a pair of white sweat pants and a black crop top. I decided on a pair of black simple sandals that had a thin strap right before the toes. I threw my waist long brown hair into a messy bun on my head and made my way to the kitchen. I was starving having noticed I barely ate since what happened to my dad. The thought of it made me stop dead in my tracks. It's been 5 days now and it's been replaying in my head nonstop. I shook off the dread and continued my way to the kitchen.
When I got there axel was sitting at the island eating a sandwich. "Well look who rose from the dead. Colton said when he left for school this morning that he bet you would sleep all day" he said. Hmm Colton seems to think he already knows me. Weird. "I don't sleep well at night. Well not recently. Whatcha eating?" I asked changing the subject. Axel laughed and looked at me out the side of his eye. "Woke up hungry huh. Typical girl. You want me to make you something" he asked. I smiled ear to ear. "Um yes please. What's on the menu chef Axel" I asked in a joking tone. Axel laughed again and his cheeks tinged pink. "You got ham and cheese sandwich. Peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. Or I can make u a sausage egg and cheese sandwhich. Your choice" he replied. At the mention of a sausage egg and cheese my face lit up. He laughed and turned towards the fridge. "Sausage egg and cheese it is" he said. I watched as Axel pulled the eggs out of the fridge and the sausage out the freezer. I sat back and watched as he hummed a tune and cooked my food. After about 10 minutes he slid a plate in front of me. With a smirk on his face he said "bon appetite courtesy of chef Axel" in a goofy American accent. All the boys had that perfect British accent that you can't replicate no matter how hard you try. I muttered a quick thank you and dug into my food. After literally absorbing my food in one bite I looked up to see Axel laughing. "What's so funny" I asked. He chuckled again. "Seems like you'll fit in just fine here. " he replied as he walked out the kitchen.
I put my plate in the sink and decided to go for a walk. I remember Evelyn saying there was a small town about two miles down the road. I grabbed my phone and wallet and made my way out the door.
After a hour of walking I was hot and sweaty but I could see the little town just up the road. My legs were burning and I desperately needed a drink. Evelyn had given me a card to use and said not to worry about what I spent. The little town was old style to say the least. The road leading to it was cobble stone and the buildings looked like something you see in a movie. The all lined up in a nice row and were different colored brick. If you've ever watched a British movie with the quaint little country side towns you know what I'm talking about.
The first building as I walked into town had an old sign hanging above it that read "Lee's cafe". Deciding that's the best place to get a drink I opened the door and stepped in. A small bell chimed allowing the worker to know I was there. The cafe was beautiful to say the least. There were round tables spread out with a counter behind them. The aroma that filled my nose was something wonderful. It smelled life spice and coffee. And sweet like a bakery. "Hello love. New to town are Yee" a young man at the counter asked in a oh so cute accent. "That obvious" . I replied walking to the counter. The boy had to be around my age. Maybe even younger. He had bright red hair and pale skin with freckles grazing his entire face. He let out a slight chuckle. "I been working here since I was 14. I'm homeschooled and my parents run the cafe. I've seen about everyone who lives around here in the last 3 years and we don't get many tourist. That more for the center of Yorkshire where the outlets are. But your a new face. And a pretty one at that" he replied. A slight blush crept to my cheeks. "I just moved here from the us. It's my first day venturing out". I replied to the young boy. "Well the names Lee jr. But me mates just call me JR. Fancy a cupper would ya." Jr asked. I giggled a little at the use of cupper in a scentence. Definitely not something you would hear where I'm from. "Sure. What's the best thing you got. I'm new to this." I replied. The boy walked around for a minute working behind the counter. After a minute or too he came back. "Spiced pumpkin latte. On the house for your first time and a chocolate chip muffin to go with it" he answered shoving a plate and a cup towards me. "There's a bookshelf over by the window. Most people like to read and pass the time while enjoying. Well enjoy your cuppa and if u wanna chat a little let me know aye" he added. I thanked him and grabbed the cup and plate choosing the small table by the window. I made my way to the bookshelf and grabbed a random book it was called the cruel prince and seemed like something I'd like. I made my way back to my table and cracked the book open. I grabbed my coffee and took a sip. The taste was beyond anything I had tasted back home. A hint of cinnamon, pumpkin, hazelnut, and vanilla hit my tounge. It was extraordinary. "Aye I told ya it was food didn't I" Jr laughed.
I sat at the cafe for another hour or so reading my book and sipping my coffee. All that was left from my muffin was a few crumbs on the plate. I stood up and stretched my limbs feeling stiff from having sat so long. I pulled my phone out my pocket and glanced at the time. 4:00. Holy crap. I'd been gone since 1. I quickly grabbed my plate and retuned it to jr at the counter. "I'll be back sometime soon I promise. Here's the book I was reading" I said handing him the cruel prince book. "Aye no worries. Take it with ye. I'm sure I'll see you again soon. We do have the best drinks around ere" he replied. I thanked him and promised to return soon.
I had planned on exploring the town more but had lost track of time. I grabbed the remainder of my coffee and the book and made my way out the door. I began the hour long trek back to Evelyn's. Thinking that By the time I get back the boys should be home. I was excited to have some company for the rest of the day. I know it sounds weird but I couldn't wait for the distraction of school. I hadn't noticed but my time at the cafe was the most time of me not thinking about what happened to the man I thought was my father.
