Back in the present.
Hi, I am Kim Y/N, an artist, and I have my own gallery that is doing very well. I have worked hard to get to where I am now. And I have a perfect boyfriend, Lucian. He is also an artist, which brought us closer together.
The only thing about him is that he is very famous and has painted a few pieces for my gallery. This has increased the gallery's publicity. I hope to be world-famous soon. The Kim Y/N Gallery. The very thought gives me chills of happiness.
My friend Amy, who is a journalist, nudged me.
She always deals with crime stories. She says she enjoys writing about all those terrible things. To me, those are disgusting things.
She asked me a question without mincing words. "When are you going to move to the next level?"
"Yahh, what are you talking about?"
"I'm just saying, you've been together for six months and what, you just kiss?"
I looked away from her. I felt a bit uncomfortable talking about it. It's not that I'm innocent, I just don't find those topics suitable for conversation. That's it.
"It's complicated..." I replied.
"Don't you feel the need to have something more?"
I looked at her and frowned slightly. I hate how she manages to read me.
"Of course, I feel it, it's just not the right time yet." A lie. I don't feel any sexual attraction toward Lucian, just gratitude for helping me with the gallery's publicity. It's stupid, but it's true.
"Really? It's been six months." - she pressed.
"Well, I'm not like you."
"Maybe you should be."
I rolled my eyes, and she laughed. She took a sip of her red wine. Clearly, she enjoys provoking me.
"Come on, it's late. We should go," I suggested, more to get out of the conversation.
Amy nodded. We went outside, and each of us went to our own car.
"You know, I really don't understand. You have a great body, perfect curves, and still nothing."
"I've had enough for tonight, Amy... And you are beautiful too..."
She interrupted me mid-sentence.
"I know that, and I know how to use it. Why don't you try?"
"No, thanks."
I got into the car and honked at her.
I started driving. My house is 10 minutes away from my workplace, which I like.
Maybe Amy is right; I mean, I really do look good, but I don't understand what's wrong with me. Maybe I'm mentally ill, who knows? I don't go to the doctor often. In fact, I hate hospitals and even the thought of them.
The street is really dark; there's almost no one around. I glanced away from the road for just a moment. I felt something hit my car. I quickly slammed on the brakes. I looked up, and the man in front of me was lying on the road. Did I really? Oh fuck!
With trembling hands, I gripped the steering wheel and then quickly released my grip. I slowly got out of the car. Please God, let me not have killed anyone. I approached the man lying in front of my car and put my hand over my mouth.
"What should I do?!!!"
I reached out my hand towards his neck, searching for a glimmer of hope that he had survived.
I stopped.
I heard heavy footsteps echoing on the pavement behind me. They were getting closer. There were no cars in front of me, just the man lying on the cold concrete.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
A voice so deep in the middle of the night. I got chills. I turned towards him.
I got scared when I looked at him. He had a rabbit mask on his face and was dressed all in black. His mask was stained with blood.
The only thing I can see clearly is his muscular neck and a few tattoos on it. His energy fills the air; I have never felt such evil from a person.
I looked up into his barely visible black eyes. He was watching me. I felt so small under his strong and terrifying gaze.
"W-who are you?"
He approached me and crouched in front of me.
"The one who snatches lives. Utterly devoid of mercy." - his deep voice filled the air.
"Excuse me?"
I looked back at the man lying on the road. My hands started to tremble. I looked back at him, whoever he was.
"D-did you do this?"
He stood up and stepped away from me. He walked over to the man and grabbed him by the ankle. I was in shock.
He dragged his gaze back to me. He just kept staring at me. I felt uncomfortable. Then, with his deep voice, he spoke again. I got chills.
"Prepare yourself-our paths will intertwine again in the darkness."
