Regardless of whether they lounged around all day doing nothing but getting drunk. They could also be busy performing miracles as curing diseases from children while they were still in the womb. When Denatus was announced, it was the duty of every god to travel to a designated region of Heaven. Sometimes it was Asgard, sometimes Vanaheim, sometimes Olympus, sometimes Heliopolis, and sometimes others. The vast distance from their permanent place of residence was no excuse. Presence was mandatory, even if you intended to sit quietly in a corner and listen to the babbling of geezers who had already lived far too long.
Of course, many gods weren't happy about that. Some didn't like breaking away from the endless circle of entertainment and pleasures. Others simply didn't feel the need for all that divine dignity that forced certain behaviors regardless of their nature. For others, it meant getting behind on work.
The latter include the gods of death, who were responsible for purifying souls.
Even among beings who had the same purpose of existence, there were huge differences. A Thanatos was the textbook example of a workaholic. His occupation gave him great joy and filled him with an incredible sense of satisfaction. He gave people a chance for redemption and took away all their suffering. Charmed by the love of two lovers who died in shared embraces, he reincarnated them close to each other, believing that despite the lack of memories from their previous lives, they would be pierced by Eros' arrows once again. He only took breaks when he fainted from exhaustion, which for divine physiology was... quite an incredible achievement.
The complete opposite of this good-natured workaholic was Chernobog. This bastard also loved his work, but for completely opposite reasons. He loved absorbing despair from mortals' memories. Their screams were music to his ears. He could almost feel the sweet taste of blood on his lips seeing the end of the lives of innocent victims of murderers. Some gods feared those with the element of death, but Chernobog inspired true disgust even among his counterparts. This cruel man unworthy of being called a god once resorted to an unforgivable act. He began to send the souls of sinners to paradise, and threw the pure ones into the flames. Many gods intended to kill him on the spot for his crimes immediately after discovering the truth. It is worth noting that the gods did live forever, but being killed by another god meant the complete erase of their existence.
The only thing that saved this monster from uniting with chaos was his brother Belobog. The patron of light and life, who enjoyed the trust and friendship of many divine beings, defended his brother, but he had to deal with the problem himself. Although in all the worlds one could look in vain for two beings equally different from each other, they were still brothers and still knew each other inside out. It was therefore clear to Belobog that the only argument that appealed to his brother was strength, which is why he fought a fight with him that shook the heaven. The defeated Chernobog challenged his brother to a duel many times, but just as light always dispels darkness, at the end of each fight Belobog emerged with his head held high. However even if the light always proved to be superior to the darkness, these two elements could not exist without each other.
It was for this reason that Belobog showed mercy to his brother every time. Lord of death understood his hopeless situation and began to fulfill his old duties in accordance with the applicable laws. Unfortunately, his heart still remained in the color of his name and he continued to rejoice in human misfortune.
Thus an innumerable number of beings gathered on Olympus at the call of Ouranos himself, who belonged to the so-called Protogenoi (primordial deities).- Does anyone know what's on the old man's mind? - asked Aphrodite, confident as always.
- I have many talents, such as poetry, music, hunting, and controlling the sun, but I am not the god of knowledge - replied the eternally boastful Apollo, who turned his gaze to the goddess possessing the aforementioned attribute.
- If you're looking for answers, you've come to the wrong place - Athena said. - Since you were responsible for inviting everyone to the meeting, you probably know the reason why Denatus was called. Isn't that right, Hermes?"
