2003

"Adam? Where are you going?" A six year old Morgan asks her 17 year old brother as she catches him packing in the middle of the night. She was stood in his doorway in her pyjamas with her teddy, fluffy, clutched in her hands. She couldn't sleep, so she decided to come stay in her brothers room. He always helped her fall back to sleep.

"Hey squirt, what are you doing? You should be asleep" he whispers as he makes his way over to her and picks her up.

"So should you. Why do you have clothes in the bag?" She's asks, confusion written all over her small face.

"Listen.." Adam says as he places her down on the edge of his bed next to his duffel bag, "I've gotta get away from here.. but I'll come back for you okay?"

"Why can't you take me with you? Daddy's been so mean lately you have to stay with me" little Morgan says, still confused on why he's leaving her.

"I can't stay here any longer, okay squirt? I have to get away from here. But I'll come back for you, I promise. I just need to figure things out and get on my feet, okay?" Adam explains as he sees his little sisters heart break at the fact he's leaving her with a monster of a father.

"No, you can't leave me! Take me with you now! Please don't leave!" Morgan starts to shout and cry but is quickly quietened by Adams hand on her mouth.

"Be quiet he'll hear you..." he says as he listens out for any movement. When there's no sounds he takes his hand off of his sisters mouth, tears still falling down her little cheeks, "I'll get into trouble if I take you with me, okay? You just have to give me time. I'll come get you in 4 weeks, okay squirt?" Morgan just nodded.

2022

"Those 4 weeks were just the start of the worst 9 years of my life" Morgan explains to Gracie. The two had moved from the kitchen and were now out on Gracie's apartment balcony.

"So, he never came home?" Gracie asks. Though, she knew the answer to the question before it was even asked.

"I never saw him again."

2005

"Look what you did! Why did you smash that glass, huh?! Answer me!!" Morgan's father shouts down at the scared little 8 year old.

"John you're scaring her!" Morgan's mother shouts before being slapped round the face by him.

"Did I tell you to speak bitch?!" John shouts as he towers over his wife.

"Dad stop please!" A tearful Morgan shouts as she tries to push him away from her mother.

"Hey!" He pushes her down. Her head makes contact with the glass on the ground first before she blacks out.

2022

"I had to get 13 stitches that night. The hospital thought I fell off my bike. Though that obviously wasn't the case" Morgan explains as she holds the back of her head at the memory.

"Oh my god..."

"Yeah... and that isn't even half of it" Morgan replies to Gracie's speechless state with a sad smile.

"I'm so sorry that happened to you. That any of it happened to you" Gracie looks over at Morgan from across the small round table with furrowed eyebrows.

"It's in the past. As far as I'm concerned.. neither my brother or father exist" she lets out with a nod before looking into the distance over the streets of LA.

They both sit in a comfortable silence, Gracie admiring Morgan whilst Morgan admires the view of LA in the morning.

"I should-" Morgan starts before is cut-off by Weenies barking from inside the apartment.

"Oh shit, I forgot to feed Weenie! He must be so hungry!" Gracie says as she jumps up from her seated position and grabs both of their empty mugs, "would you like another one?"

"Uh.. no thanks. I should probably get going now anyway. I don't wanna over stay my welcome" Morgan explains with a shy look on her face.

"Hey, no, you're not overstaying your welcome at all! In fact, I love having you here anyway" Gracie tells her with a small smile as she moves around the table towards the closed door.

"No, seriously, it's fine. I have a photoshoot appointment later today anyway so I need to get back home and changed before that" the taller woman says as she makes her way towards the front door of the apartment and slips her shoes on.

"Okay, if you're sure" Gracie says as she follows Morgan and leans on the wall whilst she watching the girl put on her trainers, "hey, despite the circumstances.. I really enjoyed hanging out with you. To be honest, I've enjoyed hanging out with you these past 5 months quite a bit" she says with a small smile on her face. Morgan finishes tying her laces before standing up to face Gracie.

"So have I, Tiny" Morgan smiles slightly as she watches Gracie walk towards her.

"Tiny? Y'know I'm only 4 inches shorter than you right??" Gracie says as she looks up at Morgan with an amused look on her face.

"Yeah a whole 4 inches, which means you're tiny love" Morgan laughs as Gracie shakes her head at her, "I'll message you when I get home, okay?" Morgan states as she lightly grabs hold of the sides of Gracie's arms.

"Okay" Gracie quietly says before she feels Morgan place a kiss on her forehead. She feels her cheeks heat up at this as she watches Morgan open her apartment door and say goodbye.
