Y/n's POV

Sitting in the living room with grandma reading my book while she goes over things for the next DAR meeting I hum slightly when I feel a kiss being dropped to the top of my head before looking up at grandad. Watching as he moves over to grandma and kisses her quickly I can't help but smile as I watch them interact, this is what my whole life has been filled with and I often wonder how mum had never seen what I do. Mum. That's a whole can of worms I try not to think about but it's become impossible not to recently, not since she randomly appeared here asking for help for her precious little Rory. "Will you be joining us for dinner tonight y/n or do you plan on hiding again?" Grandma asks softly which breaks me from my musings and look at her making her chuckle as she comes over and sits beside me after kissing the top of my head. "You were frowning and I know where your mind goes when you frown like that. I'm not going to force you to join us for dinner if you don't want to sweetheart. Hell I can cancel the whole arrangement if it makes you uncomfortable."

"I feel selfish for not wanting to share you with them grandma, I've had you to myself all this time and suddenly because her precious little baby needs help mum's come back and... I know it's petty but I don't want to share you and grandad." I say as I cuddle into her side and she kisses the top of my head while grandad smiles at me softly. "I don't want you to cancel dinner with them because I know that you're looking forward to it but... I know we always have dinner together but do I have to attend these ones? I don't want to see either of them. Mum made it clear who she wanted when we were babies and it wasn't me which is but I don't want to be her second best now."

"Of course you don't sweetheart, me and your grandad aren't going to force you to join us if you really don't want to see either of them." Grandma says and grandad is quick to nod in agreement making me smile as I sit up enough to kiss her cheek. "I know that you don't want to acknowledge it but you are going to have to talk to Rory eventually y/n. She's going to be in your classes sweetheart." She tells me and I groan slightly at the reminder making her laugh as the doorbell goes. Staying curled up in her side as one of the maids answers the door I tense up when I hear mum and Rory's voices while grandad winces slightly.

"The one time she's early for something." He mutters as we all get up from the sofa and I pick up my book ready to make my exit as mum and Rory come into the living room. "Hello Lorelai, Rory."

"Hi dad." Mum says awkwardly as she clutches her bag tightly before moving to kiss his cheek before looking at me with a grin which I don't return. "Oh look at you, you look so much like your dad y/n." She tells me as she comes over and tries to hug me but I move away from her with a glare making her smile fall.

"Mother." I acknowledge before turning to look at grandma who offers me a small smile while holding her hand out to me and I quickly move over to her side. "Are you really okay with me not having dinner with you? Because if you're not then I'll join you."

"Nonsense, go do whatever you want to do just please promise me that you'll get your history essay finished. I have no doubt that you will do it to the best of your ability but I also know that you get lost in the pages of your books sometimes." Grandma tells me as she strokes my hair out of my face and I grin as I kiss her cheek and rush over to kiss grandad's cheek and hug him before leaving after grabbing my jacket and schoolbag. Jumping in the car grandma and grandad got me for my birthday I drive to the library where I join my friends as they talk about our upcoming French test while working on our respective essays.

"Okay I have to ask but how come you're here and not with your grandparents? I thought you were having dinner with them tonight." Mary asks and I run my hand through making her raise an eyebrow at me. "Come on you can't be telling me that you're willingly skipping having dinner with your grandparents in favour of working on homework with us."
