Y/n's POV

Focusing on the meal I'm preparing I don't hear Lorelai come into the Inn kitchen until I feel arms wrap around my waist and a head rest on my shoulder. Silently turning in my girlfriend's embrace I listen as she rambles on about her upcoming dinner with her parents before cutting her off with a quick kiss. Feeling her shift closer to me with a slight moan I smile as I pull away from her. "Dinner will be fine Lorelai, it'll be over before you know it and then you can come home and we can eat ice cream while watching chappy tv or movies." I tell her gently and she rolls her eyes with a pout.

"Remind me why you can't just come with me and Rory?" She asks while still pouting making me chuckle slightly.

"Because I have Grace's home and neither of us wanted to subject her to your mother." I tell her and she drops her head in defeat making me bite my lip slightly. "If you want I can come with you and Rory. Grace has been saying that she wants to spend time with Rory before she has to head back to Yale." I add and she tightens her hold on me while straightening up to look at me with wide eyes.

"Really? You would come with us to dinner?" She asks and I nod in return making her grin at me. "Thank you so much! I promise to protect Grace from my mother."

"Of course I will Lor and I know that you'll protect her. You already do sweetheart." I tell her and she grins at me before leaning in to kiss me again making Sookie groan as she moves us away from the food. "If we're coming with you then I'll need to go relieve Babette and get the little menace ready. I think that she still has the outfit mum sent out a few months ago."

"Both of you need to go. It's already after six." Sookie informs us and we give her a quick smile of thanks before leaving. Driving back to mine I thank Babette for watching Grace and set about getting her ready to go. After having a slight fight about her wearing a cardigan over the dark blue dress she's wearing we're in the car with Lorelai driving us to Hartford.

"Why did you agree to come tonight?" Lorelai asks and I smile at her before looking back at Grace.

"I agreed to come because I love you and I know how you feel about these dinners. If I can make things any easier for you tonight then I'm happy to do so." I tell her as she parks outside a large house and leans over to kiss me quickly but passionately. "Please remember your manners in here tonight misses. Just like when we go visit grandma and grandpa."

"I know mum, I'll be on my best behaviour." She says and I nod, happy that she seems okay with this. Getting out of the car we meet Rory at the front door and hug her quickly before she rings the door bell and the door is quickly pulled open by a grinning Emily who ushers us inside.

"How nice of you to join us! And I see that you've brought guests." She says with a smile as she eyes me and Grace up. "Please, come on through to the living room and Lorelai can introduce you both over drinks." She adds before strolling into the living room.

"Okay she's worse than grandma." Grace mutters and I nod as we follow behind the Gilmore women. "I prefer Lor and Rory." She whispers and I rest my hand on her head lightly.

"I know, just be nice and polite and I'll think about letting you go to Greece with your grandma." I tell her and she she nods as she squeezes my hand slightly as we sit down. "It's lovely to meet you Mrs Gilmore. Can I just say that your home is lovely." I say with a charming smile.

"Well, thank you. Please call my Emily, Mrs Gilmore is my mother-in-law." Emily says politely as she pours us all drinks, handing Grace a glass of soda making her thank her quietly. "I'm sorry if this sounds rather forward but you remind me of someone."

"Of course Emily, I'm y/n and this is my daughter Grace." I say with a small chuckle as I take the cup from Grace to put it on the table when she taps my arm. "I believe you and your husband may know of my mother, Cynthia y/l/n. That may be who I remind you of."
