the final life.

LILITH HAD NO IDEA HOW MANY LIVES SHE HAD relived all over again. She lost count after the eighty fourth. As soon as she had snapped out of the latest one— she realized just how her lives seemed to have progressively gotten worse and worse.
The most recent one— she had lost everything. Her parents, her family, her friends— all of it. She lost them to a massacre— an apocalypse. It was like a world she had never seen before. Nothing like the one she had lived in, it was horrible.
She tried her best to save them, but a sudden missile dropping to their basecamp was unexpected, and Lilith was the sole survivor. She thought of the many things she could have done differently, but she was fueled by so much rage and anger that she was blinded by her need for revenge. She did eventually wipe out six basecamps, until she was finally caught and killed.
"Why are you doing this to me?" Lilith sobbed, "I can't do this anymore!"
"I'm sorry, little witch. But you have to. You are running out of time— you only have one more life to go." The voice murmured, and Lilith shut her eyes tightly.
"P-please. . . stop it. . ."
"I can only stop if you've given up. Are you giving up?"
". . . ."
"Just one more, Lilith. It will all make sense eventually. . . ."
". . . and then I can go back. . ?"
". . .you have to find yourself first, little witch."
"I–"
"You can do it." The voice assured her, "I know you can."
With that, Lilith was pulled back into the depths of her soul— her hundredth and final life.

"My light." Hades cooed as he rocked his baby back and forth, lulling her back to sleep. The baby blinked sleepily, reaching out her tiny hands to her father's cheek— a small toothless smile appearing on her face. She let out a small giggle when her father made a silly face.
"There's nothing in this world I love more than you, princess." Hades hummed softly, "I'll make sure that nothing in this world will ever harm you. Love of my life. . . ." He murmured, placing his cold lips to the baby's forehead.
The baby blinked slightly, a smile still present on her face. She let out a small babble and wrapped her tiny hands around the man's shirt. "You'll grow up with Papa, who'll make sure you get everything you ever ask for. . ." He hummed, "And your mother will be looking down on you, looking after you. Mama will take care of you, she loves you so much, do you know? Even if you're not her blood, she'll do anything for you. Just like I will, my love." He whispered softly as he watched his daughter slowly fluttering her eyes sleepily.
"We love you so much, princess. Don't ever forget that. . ." He whispered softly as his daughter finally fell into a deep slumber.
Persephone watched as she leaned on the doorway quietly, a small, soft smile pulled up on her lips. She didn't know if it was possible— but she fell in love with her husband all over again.
