When Rowena awoke the next morning, the sun was trying to break through the blinds on her bedroom window. She picked up her phone to check the time. 6:43. It was her day off, so she didn't have to get up yet. She set her phone down and went to turn over, but stopped when she felt something heavier than her blankets draped across her waist. Rowena started to panic, not knowing what it was, until she suddenly remembered. It was John. His arm was draped around her. She let out a sigh of relief and settled back under the covers.
Rowena smiled to herself. She had always thought that it would be uncomfortable to share a bed with someone, but this wasn't. She loved the feeling of his arm cradling her. She loved the feeling of him laying next to her, and how she could hear his deep, relaxed breaths. It wasn't awkward at all. It felt. . .right. She felt at home. She felt safe.
Rowena had never been in bed with anyone before, but these feelings
felt. . .familiar. And that kiss last night. She had loved every second of it, but it, too, had a feeling of déjà vu about it. It was as if they had known each other for years. But, of course, she knew they hadn't!
At that moment, she heard a yawn come from John, and his arm tightened around her waist slightly.
"Are you awake?" he asked lightly.
"Yes." she said, smiling.
He pulled her closer to him and lifted his head over her shoulder.
"Good morning!" he said, giving her a peck on the cheek.
Rowena turned onto her back so that she could see him better. "Morning." she said.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm starving!" John said.
As if on cue, Rowena's stomach growled loudly. "Me too!" she said. "I'll go make us something."
"Okay. And I'll take a quick shower."
"Sounds good." Rowena got up and stretched. Then she straightened out her long t-shirt as she walked into the kitchen to make breakfast. She popped some toast in the toaster and then started making scrambled eggs and bacon. Just as she finished putting it all on plates, there was a knock on the door.
Rowena walked over to her door and looked through the peephole. It was Mary-Margaret who lived right across the hall. Rowena opened the door.
"Hi, Ro!" Mary-Margaret said. "Sorry to bother you so early, but I was just wondering. . . You wouldn't happen to have some eggs I could borrow, do you?"
"As a matter of fact, I do!" Rowena said. "Come in. I'll get you some."
"Thanks!" Mary-Margaret said as she stepped inside and followed Rowena into the kitchen. Rowena opened the fridge and pulled out a whole carton of eggs.
"Here you go!" she said, handing it to her neighbor.
"Oh, but, I only need a couple."
"I know, but I bought two cartons last time, and I'll never eat all of them before they go bad. Take them."
"Are you sure?" Mary-Margaret asked.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Okay, well, thanks!" Suddenly, she noticed the two plates set out for breakfast. "Hey, why are there tw-"
Just then, John came into the kitchen in a pair of jeans, but he was shirtless. And his hair was still damp.
"Oh!" Mary-Margaret exclaimed. "I see."
"See what?" John asked.
"Oh, nothing." she replied, giving Rowena a knowing smirk. Then she and Rowena walked back to the door.
"Who is that?" Mary-Margaret asked. "He's hot!"
Rowena blushed. "He's a. . .um. . ." she stuttered.
"Okay, gotcha." Mary-Margaret said with a wink. "Well, thanks again for the eggs!"
"You're welcome!"
Mary-Margaret went back across the hall and Rowena shut the door to her own apartment. Then she went back to join John for breakfast.
