The next morning, I woke up and found a short black dress to put on for Will's funeral. It wasn't the most appropriate thing, but it was all I had. I just end up stealing clothes from random stores anyway and manage not getting caught. I didn't have time now to find something new. I brushed my hair and teeth, and began walking to the cemetery. I eventually found Nancy and stood next to her for support. She smiled at me as I squeezed her hand.
"'Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.' It's times like these that our faith is challenged. How, if He is truly benevolent... could God take from us someone so young, so innocent. It would be easy to turn away from God... but we must remember that nothing, not even tragedy, can separate us from His love. We are here today to find comfort in the truth of scripture, and to surround Will and his family..." The pastor rambled on, reading scripture from the bible. I could see Mike and his friends snickering about something in front of me. I haven't forgotten about 011, I know they're hiding her, and probably using her to find Will, but she wasn't my concern yet. Right now, we had to stop the monster before it took anyone else.
I watched as yellow and white roses were tossed over the coffin sitting in the ground. Nancy, Jonathan and I walked over to a bench outside of the cemetery and sat down.
"This is where we know for sure it's been, right?" Jonathan asked.
"That's everything we know right now." I looked at him.
"So that's..." Nancy started, pointing at the map with red x's where the monster has showed up.
"Steve's house." Jonathan nodded. "And that's the woods where they found Will's bike and that's my house."
"It's all so close." Nancy noticed.
"Yeah. Exactly. I mean it's all within a mile or something. Whatever this is, it's... it's not traveling far."
"You want to go out there." Nancy said as we looked at Jonathan, the determination flashing through his eyes.
"We might not find anything." He continued.
"Y/n and I found something. And if we do see it... then what?"
"We kill it" Jonathan said as he got up and walked to a black car. In it, he messed with the lock on the passenger side compartment..
"What are you doing?" Nancy asked, confusion shared on both of our faces.
"Just give me a second." Jonathan said as he finally got the latch open, revealing a gun.
"Are you serious?" Nancy said.
"What? You want to find this thing and take another photo? Yell at it?"
"This is a terrible idea." Nancy stated.
"What other option do we have?" I replied to her.
"Yeah, well, it's the best we've got." Jonathan said, stuffing the gun and ammunition into his jacket pocket. "What? You can tell someone, but they're not gonna believe you. You know that."
"Your mom would." Nancy replied.
"She's been through enough"
"She deserves to know."
"Yeah, and I'll tell her when this thing is dead." Jonathan headed back to his house, and I went with Nancy to hers.
"If we're going to kill this thing, we're going to need to protect ourselves." Nancy said, rummaging through things in her garage, pulling out a bow and arrows. "Here, I wasn't very good, but who knows." She then went to another side of the garage and grabbed a baseball bat. I took a coke can from the trash and put it on the shelves, practicing shooting. Nancy stuck towards the front of the garage, swinging the baseball bat.
