Regret weighed heavily on me as I left Solaris without another word

Regret weighed heavily on me as I left Solaris without another word. His eyes had followed me as I left but I didn't spare him another glance.

I knew he was hurt, hurt that I didn't want to continue this path. But he didn't understand. There was nothing I could do. We didn't know the location of the necklace and the entire kingdom was riddled with beasts of many kinds.

I shuddered, the memory of the basilisk flashed through my mind.

How could I beat that?

I didn't even know the first steps in fighting. Why would I have needed it?

I was overwhelmed with everything.

Gaia's depleting existence, Elyssanar's raging beast nest, location of Aurelia's necklace, and my inability to work around any of that.

Who just pushes this onto someone's shoulders?

I could feel the rage building up inside me.

Maybe if I had known this from the start, things would have been different. I would have had time to practice, to learn, to know my enemies.

Queen Aurelia and Gaia had a lot of them and I only knew about the basics.

I had thought that meeting Gaia would have just awakened the fight in me, Solaris believed it would have made me believe more in my destiny.

Both of us, however, had turned out wrong.

I found myself wandering in circles and the sun was beginning to rise.

Sleep wasn't anywhere to be seen. In fact, it was long gone.

The animals were beginning to awaken and so were their voices.

I found that I could easily shut them out, blocking them using a wall in my head, just like when I had used it with Solaris.

I sighed, even if I didn't pursue any instructions, there would be no way in getting rid of these voices in my head. Just a constant reminder of the duty I had ignored.

But it really wasn't my duty. A strange mortal taking down monsters and freeing a kingdom from despair?

I chuckled to myself, realizing how crazy I sounded.

The first light of dawn began to pierce the horizon and the zoo transformed into a tranquil haven. The sky, painted in hues of pink and orange, cast a soft glow over the entire landscape. The air was cool and fresh, carrying the faint scent of dew-kissed grass and the earthy aroma of the waking environment.
