THREE YEARS AGO

SHAWN BROWN walked down the aisle of the local grocery store, picking up items she needed for the week. She groaned when one of the chips she held fell from the shelf and bent down to pick it back up.

"What the fuck did that fall for?" She muttered under her breath. Just as she was to stand up again a grunt from behind her startled her. She quickly stood back up and turned around, immediately rolling her eyes when she saw who was there. The one person she did not want to see, of course.

"Like the view, Cowboy?" She teased. The said cowboy scoffed in return, yet still flashed her his grin. Looking her up and down, analysing her as if he hasn't seen her in a while (and he hadn't).

"I don't know what you're talking about," He said, "What the hell are you doing here anyway?"

Shawn furrowed her brows and clenched her jaw, "What? What am I doing in a grocery store? Buying a hearse? What do you think?!"

"You know what I meant," The guy rolled his eyes, "What are you doing back in Oklahoma?"

"None of your business," She groaned again, "Shut the fuck up,"

The guy stepped closer to Shawn, leaving little to no space. Shawn narrowed her eyes and glared at him. Pushing him with her pointed finger away from her, not that it did anything because of how hunky he was.

"What do you think you're doing?" She said sternly.

The cowboy dude stifled a laugh, "You haven't changed," He stated as his right hand came up close to her face, tucking her brunette hair behind her right ear, "Still same old Shawnie,"

Shawn didn't know why her heartbeat was rising but she didn't like it. Not when the guy that made it rise was someone she hated. So she stepped backwards expecting the long aisle but she was met with the shelving. As her body bumped to it, the guy was watching her with amusement in his eyes.

"You on the other hand have become more annoying, shocking," She hissed at him.

The guy chuckled and stepped backwards, leaving their little bubble. He huffed, both his hands on his waist and continued to look her up and down. But Shawn has had enough, she walked past and smacked her shoulder against his body and walked away from him.

"Shawn Brown doing what she does best, leaving!"

Shawn stopped on her tracks, turned around and walked straight back to him, "What the hell is your problem?!"

"You don't belong here," He muttered.

"I'm not staying long, dickhead," She hissed at him again. And she walked away for real that time, leaving the guy behind just like she did once before.

The brunette girl arrived home a couple hours earlier than expected. Her mom and dad were sitting in the living room, watching the news. Shawn grunted as she picked up all the groceries she got in reusable bags from her truck and walked into her childhood home. She got her key, opened the front door and closed it with her foot, not realising that she slammed it super hard. Her parents immediately ran over to the door in shock.

"What the hell?" Her dad, Wyatt Brown, exclaimed.

Shawn smiled sheepishly, "Sorry dad, my hands are full,"

Her mom, Charlotte Brown, pushed her husband forwards in a hurry, "Help your child!"

Within seconds, Shawn's full hands were empty as her dad grabbed every single bag from her grip. They all head to the kitchen and started placing things where they belong.

"You're home early," Her mom stated.

   "Ugh, don't remind me,"

"What happened, sweetie?" Her dad asked, placing one hand on Shawn's shoulder.

She shrugged, "Saw someone from the past I didn't want to see,"

Her mother gasped, "No way! Tyler Owens?!"

Shawn snapped her head towards her mom in shock, "W-What?! How'd you know?!"

Charlotte laughed, "The only person that I know that can make you that irritated and frustrated is Tyler," And her mother wasn't wrong. It had been that way for 5 years since they met for the first time. But that's a story for another time.

Shawn huffed as she helped her parents put all the groceries away. Her mother's words echoing in her mind like a broken record. She rolled her eyes and shook her head as if it would stop her mind from going on a tangent. After all the stuff was put away nicely, Shawn went to her room. Her room that hasn't changed since she left 2 years ago. Still got her Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift posters on the wall, her bed still in the middle of the room, taking most of the space. God knows she needed some normalcy and her room grounded her.

Shawn was an excellent student in the University of Oklahoma and she studied Meteorology. She has always been intrigued by the study of weather, especially in Oklahoma where tornadoes are native. As it averages with more than 50 tornadoes a year there. Where people would run away from them, she would run towards them. But she hasn't chased tornadoes in a while. More because she moved to New York of all places. She got offered a job she couldn't pass and left Oklahoma, the place she called home.

It was 9PM and Shawn was bored out of her mind. She stood up from her bed where she had laid down for the last 5 hours. She walked to her closet and picked out an outfit. She chose some denim shorts and a simple black halter top. Shawn was going to go to the local bar. She went out of her room and walked past the living room where her parents were still sitting.

   "I'm going out!" She yelled.

"Be careful, Shawn!" Her father yelled back.

"Always," She said as she shut the door. Shawn went to her truck, turn the ignition on and drove to the local bar.

An hour later, she was tipsy. She was ordering one more glass of beer when suddenly she felt the heat of a warm body next to her. Shawn looked over to her right and groaned out loud. Of course it was Tyler Owens again.

"Are you stalking me?" She asked bluntly.

Tyler scoffed, "You wish," He sat down on the barstool next to her and ordered a drink. Shawn watched him from the corner of her eyes, seething. But also silently appreciating his figure. Tyler Owens was a hot man and he always had been since the first moment she laid her eyes on him. He was attractive and ticked all her boxes as far as physical appearances go. But his personality, not so much.

"So, why are you still here?" He smirked.

"The answer is still the same, none of your damn business,"

As they bickered back and forth, none of them knew that they were going to spend the night together in a tangled mess, inside his red truck, possibly regretting everything or so that's what they thought.
