SHAWN SCOFFED at the amount of people surrounding the red truck. All of them crowding the Tyler Owens to finally see the tornado wrangler himself. His friends hopped out of the truck, selling merchandise like tumblers and t-shirts, which looks like it has Tyler's face printed on it.
"Alright, let's get out of this bunch," Javi said, taking the iPad that Scott was holding, "Kate, Shawn, which storm should we chase?"
Shawn—who was still busy glaring at the blond guy—shook her head and blink rapidly for a few seconds before focusing on the tablet. She looked back up at Kate's face and then at Javi who was intently staring at Kate. She raised an eyebrow but looked back down to the iPad.
"There's a nice looking one over the east," Scott pointed out.
Both Shawn and Kate pursed their lips as they walked in unison away from the group. Shawn took the iPad from Kate's hands when Kate was distracted with the men following them around. The blonde pulled Javi over to speak to him. Whereas Shawn kept looking from the iPad to the seemingly darkening sky. She walked away from everyone on her own and bit her lip in deep thought.
Shawn could feel eyes watching her. She shuddered and walked away further to inspect the weather. Kate following not that far behind. Who would've thought the one time Shawn finally came back home to Oklahoma, she'd meet the one person she despised. Her luck is terrible.
The brunette looked around the ground as her best friend came up next to her. She spotted a dandelion on the ground and bent down to pick it up.
"Look, a dandelion!" Shawn exclaimed and gave said flower to Kate to let the wind blow the flower away.
Suddenly the most annoying voice came up from behind the girls and said, "You know I used to do that too,"
"No one asked," It was Shawn's immediate reply. Maybe it was childish of her but who cares? Apparently Kate does as she pinched Shawn's arm.
"Compare the wind direction to the cloud movement, get your feel for the share," Tyler ignored Shawn and moved forward to stand between the girls, "Yep, sometimes the old ways are better than the new. Isn't that right, Shawnie?"
"Shut the fuck up,"
Tyler smirked at her but ignored her yet again and turned to look at her best friend instead, "Where you comin' in from?"
"New York," Kate stated.
"You're a long way from home, city girl,"
Shawn gagged right away. Why is he flirting with her best friend?
Tyler looked back at the cars for a quick second, "So, you like workin' for Storm Par?"
"God, you talk too much," Shawn said. She walked in front of Kate and Tyler and looked at him. He stared at her eyes for the first time in a long time and was almost speechless. He can't believe she's here in front of him. But before he could say anything back, a guy ran towards the trio. He had a blue shirt on underneath his dark jacket and he had glasses on.
"Tyler, you know which storm we're going after yet?" The man was english. That's what Shawn gathered.
"Oh, why don't we ask-" Tyler stopped and raised his hand to point towards Kate as if asking for her name.
"Kate," She answered. Again, Shawn was ignored.
Tyler smiled at her best friend, "Hi Kate... I'm Tyler,"
"A-And I'm Ben," The British guy introduced himself, shaking Kate's hand and place his hand out towards Shawn.
"Shawn," She replied.
"I'm a reporter. Doing a piece on American storm chasing. Tyler's letting me ride along,"
"And Ben just had a promise to write good stuff about me,"
Kate smiled sarcastically, "Good luck with that!"
Shawn was ready to leave. So, the brunette walked a few steps away from them as Kate followed suit. But they were again stopped by that annoying voice.
"Hang on, you didn't say which way we're goin' yet," He said, "Now from what I gathered; west, we double out chances... East, well it's high risk, high reward,"
"The go for the reward!" Kate said. Shawn chuckled under her breath, "You don't want Ben to think you're boring,"
"Boring's not usually a problem for me, Kate,"
The blonde girl came forward again to explain why the tornado on the east would be better and then walked away again. Shawn walking next to her, away from the bane of her existence.
"City girl knows her stuff, Ben," He said. But neither Kate nor Shawn cared enough to acknowledge it.
So he said it louder, "I said, city girl knows her stuff, Ben!"
"Thanks!" Kate said sarcastically, "Maybe if I worked real hard, I could be a tornado wrangler too!"
Tyler shook his head and smirked. The blonde girl basically ran back to the Storm Par team, to tell them which side was better to choose. Noticing his rival walking away from him, slower than Kate was. Tyler couldn't stop himself from uttering nonsense.
"Who said you could leave?"
Shawn sighed and looked back at him again, "What do you want?"
The guy walked towards her and stopped right in front of her. Watching her and taking a gulp. Not that Shawn could see that because she was seething at him.
"Didn't know you hang out with city girls now,"
"So now you're talking to me?" Shawn replied, "If you like city girls so much, talk to Kate, not me,"
"You jealous, Sweetheart?"
"Please! The only thing I'm jealous of is myself ten minutes ago before you crashed the place,"
Tyler chortled, he had always enjoyed getting a rise out of Shawn. It was always such a funny thing to do.
"There's nothing wrong with being jealous, darlin'. No one's judging here,"
Shawn sneered at him, "I got no time talking to assholes like you," With another glare at him, she walked away, her heartbeat rising just like it did three years ago.
The guy let out a breath, smacking his chest multiple times. Watching Shawn getting further away like he did that night three years ago.
