Chapter nine

Third person pov
Ari's system started over heating while she was figuring out how to walk with these new legs. It's harder for her to balance since she doesn't have the support of feet anymore. She has to learn to balance on her stilt like legs. It was incredibly hard to balance, her stilt legs wobbling and arms flaring about.

Her system was warning her that she was overheating. She didn't know what to do so she sat down in the snow and laid on her back to cool down. She looked at the stars, and got lost in her thoughts. Wondering why this had to happen to her. Of all drones, why her? She didn't know if she should feel happy that she wasn't in the body of a drone that was wearing away, or sad that she was taken out of that body and its memories.

Where it is now, nobody knows. But she feels like some of her memories are being hidden away from her. She knows they are there but she doesn't know how to see them. The last memory she has of her old self is sitting in the pod waiting for N. Anything that happened after that is faded away.

Ari felt like something was missing, besides the memories. She feels empty, and she wants to figure out why. She hates feeling that hole in her heart. Was it her sketch book? After how bad Uzi was acting over it, Ari didn't want to even look at her sketch book anymore. It made her feel a panging sense of quilt and shame. Why couldn't she just share her memories? Why was it so hard to?

It probably had answers to some of her questions and why she feels empty. But she doesn't wanna open that sketch book. It seems weird to her that she pretty much wouldn't go anywhere without it and now she wants nothing to do with it. She still didn't want Uzi to read it, she didn't want anyone to read it. Not yet atleast.

Her sketch book held memories she isn't ready to share and she doesn't want to be forced to share them either. But will she ever trust N and Uzi enough to share them? Even if she does end up trusting them enough will they freak out and leave her? Do they even know what happened to her? Do they know she is out here by herself and just not helping her?

Did they already read it and hate her, leaving her to die because she can't figure out how to walk and she is over heating? Ari laid in silence, in her thoughts, when she finally had enough. She sat up, still getting warnings about overheating but ignored them and tried to figure out where she was.

Should she go to the colony, or should she go to the landing pod. She was tired of laying in the snow uncertain if help was on its way. She slowly balanced herself on her stilt legs and started shuffling towards the colony. To her house, to her annoying siblings, and to her room. She stopped in her tracks, a sudden realization hit her. She dropped back down to the ground and sat staring at the snow.

She wasn't a worker drone anymore. She doesn't belong in the colony. She would be shunned even more so than when she WAS a worker drone. They probably wouldn't even let her in the doors. She has no home to go back to. She doesn't have a home anymore. Ari didn't know where to go. She can't go back to the colony now, and she doesn't wanna go sit in the pod with V.

Ari could care less if she overheated and died now. She has nothing. She doesn't have anyone in the colony to begin with, Uzi and N probably hate her, and she can't even walk. Ari slumped over on her knees, and her visor beeped with an overheating warning and she fell limp face first into the snow.

N's pov
Even though Thad's party is fun and all, I still can't stop worrying about Ari. What if V killed her or abandoned her somewhere and hasn't told me or Uzi. What does V have against Ari anyway? Ari didn't do anything... that I know of at least? I was sitting at a table with Uzi, and some of Thad's friends. Uzi is bragging about her Rail Gun of course.

She doesn't seem to be to worried about Ari being gone. I don't know why though. Ari is a good person, she didn't do anything to Uzi. Well, besides kicking her down. But Uzi was invading her space and wouldn't give her book back. "Exo planet Copper 9 to N?!" I heard Uzi's voice and she was waving her hand infront of my eyes.

"OH! Sorry about that!" I looked from Uzi and the rest of the table to the doors of the school gym. "Just thinking." One of Thad's friends spoke up. "About what?" I looked over quickly. "Um- nothing? Uhhh, Normal Disassembly Drone thoughts?" Uzi looked over at me and lifted a brow "Riiiiiight." I gave her a thumbs up and smiled, trying to be convincing. "ANYWAYS! After I blasted my rail gun in class that day me and-"

Third person pov
Uzi stopped mid sentence. N looked over because he knew why. Uzi looked back at N. Both with a sad expression on thier face. Uzi felt bad that she had forgotten about Ari. Getting so caught up in the attention she was getting from bragging about her Rail Gun.

She looked down at her lap and mumbled "nevermind." While messing with her fingers. N put his hand on her shoulder and she looked up "It's okay Uzi." He said calmly. "You can finish your story." He smiled at Uzi reassuringly. She smiled back and looked back at the few other drones at the table. "Like I was saying. I went out searching for the last peice I needed for my gun..."

Time skip!

The party was over, it wasn't too exciting anyway. There wasn't near as many drones as there would be at prom, which was very soon as well, and there wasn't really any dancing or a Dj either.

Uzi and N left out the big doors and headed for the landing pod. They both walked and N was talking about what may have happened to Ari and what else they could do to find her when-

CLIFFHANGER!! Partly bc I am tired and bc I can 💅 BUT ANYWAYS, more people have been reading and adding my story to their reading lists!! Which inspires me to keep going! Thanks for the comments and votes!!
