In the heart of the covert headquarters of the Alliance, known only as Zeo, tension crackled in the air like static before a storm. Zeo, a seasoned trainer known for her unyielding resolve, now found herself in an unfamiliar place: her own room, tears tracing silent paths down her cheeks. The events of last night replayed in her mind like a relentless loop.
Dr. Michaela and Hiroto, her trusted friends and fellow operatives, stood at the doorway, exchanging glances laden with concern and a touch of familiarity. Michaela, with her perpetually calm demeanor, tilted her head slightly, while Hiroto's expression softened with empathy.
"This isn't the first time," Hiroto murmured to Michaela, his voice tinged with concern. "Remember when she was suspended? That was the only other time I've seen her like this."
Michaela nodded quietly, her gaze never leaving Zeo's closed door. "She takes her responsibilities seriously. Last night's defeat must have hit her hard."
Inside the room, Zeo wiped her tears away, frustration and determination etched on her face. She had always prided herself on being unbreakable, but Joseph's unexpected skill and that defeat had shaken her confidence once again.
"What do you think, Michaela?" Hiroto asked softly, his concern palpable.
"We'll give her time," Michaela replied, her voice gentle yet resolute. "Zeo will bounce back. She always does."
Outside, in the dimly lit corridor, Zeo's resolve echoed faintly, a reminder that even the strongest shadows could be momentarily touched by doubt and pain.
Allister's Office
In the austere confines of her aunt Allister's office, Zeo sat rigidly in the chair, her gaze fixed on the polished desk before her. This was only her second session, yet the air crackled with tension, underscored by years of strained familial ties. Zeo had never quite forgiven Allister for the childhood rift that had torn her and Dark away from their homeworld.
Allister, a renowned psychologist with a gaze as sharp as her intellect, regarded Zeo with a mix of concern and reproach. "You and Dark," she began, her voice measured but tinged with a hint of frustration, "left our planet without a word, without considering the consequences."
Zeo's jaw clenched, the memories of abandonment stirring a defensive anger within her. "We were just kids," she retorted, her voice tinged with bitterness. "We had to survive."
"You could have come back," Allister countered, her tone firm. "Especially now, with your sister's ascension to the throne approaching. It's time for the family to be together again."
Zeo shook her head defiantly. "We've made a life here," she insisted, her voice wavering slightly. "We can't just drop everything and return."
Allister's expression hardened, disappointment etched into the lines of her face. "You're making a mistake, Zeo," she said quietly, her tone heavy with regret. "Your sister needs you. We all do."
The words hung in the air, thick with unspoken truths and unresolved emotions. Zeo felt the weight of Alister's expectations pressing down on her, suffocating her independence. "I can't," she whispered, her voice raw with emotion. "I won't."
Allister's patience snapped like a taut wire. With a sudden, swift motion, she reached across the desk and slapped Zeo across the face. The sound echoed sharply in the room, leaving a stunned silence in its wake.
Zeo recoiled, her cheek stinging from the blow. Tears sprang to her eyes, a mixture of pain and defiance. "How dare you!" she cried out, her voice cracking with hurt.
Allister's gaze was unyielding. "You need to understand, Zeo," she said firmly, her tone brooking no argument. "There are consequences for your actions."
