The forest was dense and humid, the early morning light filtering through the trees in slanted beams. Sindy and Julie trudged along, gathering wood for their camp. Sindy, ever the prankster, couldn't resist an opportunity. As Julie bent down to pick up a particularly large branch, Sindy seized her chance. With a swift motion, she shoved Julie into a nearby pond.
Julie splashed into the water, and the shock of the cold made her yelp. When she emerged, dripping and furious, she glared at Sindy. "What was that for, Sindy? You think this is funny?"
Sindy's laughter was cut short by Julie's angry retort. "Stop acting like a child!"
Sindy's amusement quickly faded as Julie's anger intensified. She tried to placate her friend, but Julie's words cut deeper. Frustrated and feeling unappreciated, Sindy snapped and, in a rare moment of aggression, slapped Julie across the face.
The force of the slap stunned Julie into silence. Her anger dissolved into hurt, and tears streamed down her cheeks. Sindy, feeling a pang of guilt, watched as Julie turned away, her shoulders shaking with quiet sobs.
Sindy murmured to herself, her voice tinged with frustration and bitterness. "You're always so sensitive, Julie. Can't you just toughen up? I'm tired of this."
Julie, hearing Sindy's harsh words, was overcome by a wave of memories. She thought of their close friendship, how they had supported each other through their teenage years, and how that bond now seemed to be fraying. The realization of how much Sindy had changed struck her deeply.
Julie's sobs grew louder, her heart aching with the weight of their deteriorating relationship. Sindy, sensing the shift in Julie's mood, hesitated before approaching her. "Julie, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
Julie, still crying, brushed past Sindy and walked ahead, her emotions too raw to confront. Sindy watched helplessly as Julie made her way back to the campus.
When they arrived, Bob noticed the tension immediately. "What's going on?" he asked, concerned.
Julie didn't respond. Instead, she ran to the washroom, slamming the door behind her. Bob was about to follow when a knock came at the large door.
Sindy and Bob opened it to find Cotton and Brownie on horseback. Cotton was holding a baby, and Brownie was riding the other horse, his face a mask of concern and exhaustion.
"What happened?" Bob asked, eyeing Cotton's bandaged arm and the anxious expression on her face.
Cotton glared at Brownie. "This stupid boyfriend of mine just couldn't stay behind. Even after Zeo scolded him and told him not to come, he insisted on being here for the baby. Well, while protecting us from the monsters, he pushed the horses too hard, and I ended up falling. But at least the baby was safe."
Brownie gave an awkward smile, kissing Cotton gently. "I'm sorry, Cotton. I just wanted to make sure you and the baby were okay."
Bob and Sindy exchanged a look of disapproval before scolding Brownie. He just shrugged, still holding Cotton close.
Cotton handed the baby to Sindy. As soon as the baby was placed in Sindy's lap, it started crying. Cotton quickly took the baby back, and it quieted, smiling up at her. Sindy's jealousy was evident as she watched.
"You're such a child, Sindy," Cotton said with a chuckle. "You're not going to win this one."
Everyone laughed, including Cotton and Brownie, as they tended to their injuries and prepared for the next phase of their mission. Cotton and Brownie, their burdens lightened, embraced their teammates before mounting their horses. With one last wave, they rode off, leaving Sindy and Bob to manage the camp.
