She was anxious, but also eager to start her first year at Hogwarts, yet there were so many things to worry about...
"Another year in Hogwarts
Has yet again begun.
Where we stand together
All united as one.
Four houses stay within us
But they represent us all.
Each house values something
That'll never make us fall.
Do you stand up in courage
To both friends and enemies?
Then you are in Gryffindor
Throughout many centuries.
Are you wise and creative
And is acceptance just your key?
You belong in Ravenclaw
As you will always be.
Are you kind and patient
To be loyal and dedicating?
Surely you'll be in Hufflepuff
Which you'll never be abandoning.
Do you want a great future
Being resourceful and cunning?
Slytherin will help you
Make your achievements be stunning.
They make up powerful magic
Though the houses are different.
They will guarantee our unity
Which definitely is significant.
Let's follow how the sorting has been
And let the sorting now begin."
The sorting hat finished its song for the year and a round of applause broke through the tables.
"Welcome first years! The sorting is to begin!" Professor Mcgonagall. She lowered her pair of glasses to the edge of her nose, then her eyebrows raised and called out names.
"Dawndew, Maddison!"
The hat didn't need much time to sort her into Ravenclaw, and Cedric, her brother, was slightly disappointed since he himself was in Gryffindor.
"Finnigan, Lila!"
She was very frantic and trembled as she sat on the stool. She hoped to be in Gryffindor, and she knew her wish came true when the voice "Gryffindor!" erupted into the hall.
Lorcan and Lysander Scamander, children of Luna and Rolf were swiftly sorted into Ravenclaw as well.
"Potter, Lily!"
"Another Slytherin from Potter, yeah?" Whispers arose from the crowds around the tables.
"Who knows? I bet she's in Gryffindor."
"The last one was in Slytherin."
"Wish her good luck..." A familiar voice sounded like Fred II commented.
"Silence!" Professor Mcgonagall barked ferociously.
Lily took a deep breath before making her way to the hat. She didn't know what she would be like if she was sorted in Slytherin. Albus didn't seem to change these two years, she knew, from her dad, that not all Slytherins would turn out to be evil.
The hat murmured beside her ear. "Ah... Potter... You are quite hard to sort, not like your brother, James... Now, let's see... Slytherin would help... Your future, your fate, what you have to face... You have lots to learn... " Lily gasped. "But not the best... Wait, or is it?... Ravenclaw? Not really... Not only you have to learn to be smart, but courage is a great part of your future, too... well... Gryffindor... That seems possible, but Slytherin or Gryffindor?" Lily held her breath. She hoped she would not be in Slytherin. She could still hear the sorting hat muttering "Gryffindor or Slytherin?" for what seemed like ages to her, since she was so nervous and so desperate to know the answer to her fate... In fact a few minutes has passed and not even a loud shout has come out from the hat... Would she not be sorted? Was she going to be a hatstall, who takes longer than five minutes to be sorted into a house? Or worse, will the sorting hat suddenly refuse to sort her?
"This one seems to take a lot more time than the other two... Which house would she be in?" Whispers once again was heard from the other students, their eyes glued to Lily and the hat on her head, waiting impatiently to know where she is going to be sorted.
"Oh! She's a hatstall! Surely it's been more than five minutes!" Lily heard someone shout. Oh, no. Would she really not be sorted into any of the houses?
The hat started whispering again. "Once a Slytherin, always a Slytherin... Once a Gryffindor, always a Gryffindor. Hard choice, since you can't change this afterwards..." Lily tensed. Does that mean Slytherin, or Gryffindor? "Well, maybe you could be an exception. I'll put you in... GRYFFINDOR!" The last word was projected so that the whole of the Great Hall was filled with the echo. But that didn't stop Lily from catching the hat's last words. For now. That's what she knew the hat has whispered, next to her ear.
The hall didn't James leapt out of his seat with mischief and giggles "Albus, I knew she would be in Gryffindor, now I can pull pranks on her more often!" Lily pushed him away as she sat opposite to Lila.
Lily could not concentrate on her surroundings. For now, she was a Gryffindor. For now? What does it mean?
"Wolf, Cameron!"
The Sorting Hat barely touched his head and a ring of "Slytherin!" was already out.
Soon enough, as Lily could not keep track of time in her thoughts again, she took a long time to realise that Roxanne Weasley (daughter of George Weasley and Angelina Weasley), Lucy Weasley (daughter of Percy Weasley and Audrey Weasley) and Hugo Weasley has joined her on her table. They were Gryffindors, and the hat didn't take so long to sort them. Unlike her.
The sorting seemed to go on forever but she ignored the others, for she was busy with her thoughts, but somebody caught her attention.
"Steve Starlight!"
The boy.. who lost his parents for a night... who can see the words like Lily... who they rescued at the end from the Death Eaters... Lily was curious about him...
He walked up with a panic.
The sorting of Steve took ages, might be even longer than her's. The boy sat with his heart, skipping a beat. There was not many left after him, but it took at least ten minutes. Professor Mcgonagall frowned slightly to check if the hat was in the right place, or had somebody cursed it. Finally, the answer who everybody longed was... HUFFLEPUFF! Steve lowered his head and stepped to his table. Professor Sprout clapped, and was the only one.
Unlike her. The whisper travelled through her head. What's with her fate, the fate that the hat was talking about? What does this have to do with deflarazion? For now, she was a Gryffindor. For now.
