Your eyes are broad with terror as you watch Law, forcing Eustass against the ground as he did to you before.
Your Captain never went easy on you, but this is the first time you see him truly fight.
Someone who almost took his father away.
And it horrifies you that as you see them, they are equally ruthless. Neither of them hesitates. Kid managed to disarm Law, and the sword stopped opposite you.
Trafalgar's eyes gleam, and he starts hitting the other's bleeding shoulder.
Zoro's sword stabbed deeply enough that from some angles you can see the bones behind the red, pulsing flesh.
You are uneasy.
You pant for air heavily and need to use all your energy to stay conscious as you lean on the column beside you and fight yourself back on your feet.
Every inch of your body aches, and you don't dare to think about your injuries, whether they can heal or not.
You feel like you have been shattered in every possible way, but the worst is your mind.
The last scene replays inside it over and over again, before Law came to help you. There is a savory, suffocating taste covering your throat, stronger than the tint of your blood.
You were sure you would die.
And it could have taken only a second.
One.
Second.
And you would have been gone forever, without ever meeting your loved ones again or ever saying goodbye.
But he spared you, and you don't know why.
You start crying.
The shock shakes you worse every moment, especially since you use all your remaining power to look up again.
The pain is almost unbearable, you are counting your racing breath to calm your mind, to put any order in this burning, orbiting world that refuses to slow down for you.
I want to go home.
But you freeze when someone falls to your side.
Adrenalin rushes through all your nerves like an earthquake when you see Kid, growling deeply as he grabs his sword again.
You step back out of instinct at your last chance as he slashes towards you, and the blade leaves a thin cut over your cheek.
It missed your right eye by mere centimeters.
"[Y/N], you have to get out of here!" shouts Law, and your fractured ribs scream as he grabs your arm roughly and pulls you behind himself. "You can't fight in that state. If you stay, I can't protect you."
Protect me?
You are glaring at him in confusion.
He doesn't seem to be a lot better than you. He is standing straight, but his blood is falling on the mosaic floor, drop by drop, playing its silent melody.
When you and Zoro charged in, he had to hold back both Robin and Nami at once. And then, Eustass.
The only thing that gives you hope is that he looks terrible, too. He is still bleeding from his shoulder, and his arm moves slowly under the wound.
Yet he is still smiling.
Smiling.
Your eyes drop the space between them, and you don't understand. You don't understand war, humanity, revenge.
