ETTINNETTE COULDN'T STOP SMILING. It was as if there was a tiny switch in her brain making her insanely happy. But why was she even happy? Her relationship was up in the cloud her father was gone and she didn't even feel she could trust her older brother. But was this even happiness?

Or was she just numb to the pain?

"Are you okay?" Lukas asked as Ettinnette nodded almost immediately. "I'm good, why?" She responded taking a sip out of her coffee as Lukas gave her a look. "You haven't cried. Like at all." He deadpans making her snort out of laughter. "I don't need too" she shrugged reaching over to add some more creamer in her cup.Lukas stared at his sister, his concern deepening. " You don't have to be strong all the time, It's okay to be human" he said gently. Ettinnette waved him off, focusing on stirring her coffee. "I'm fine, Lukas. Really," she insisted, though her voice wavered slightly. Lukas sighed, knowing that pushing her wouldn't help.

"Whatever you say"

Ettinnette stared at herself in the mirror giving herself a once over.

She couldn't even recognize herself.

She swallowed the lump in her throat as she stared at her red eyes, her sunken cheeks and the broken look on her face. 'If I just smile, maybe it'll go away' she thought as her mind subconsciously pushed down her feelings leaving a bright smile as her body craved the feeling of fire on it. Her eyes started to water more as she heard a knock being placed on her door. "You readY?" Jacob asked as she quickly blinked back the water in her eyes.

"Yup."

Ettinnette couldn't shake the feeling of euphoria she got from the pain. It was the only thing that felt real in the whirlwind of grief and betrayal. She found herself craving that release more and more, using it as a coping mechanism to numb the emotional pain she couldn't face. She became adept at hiding the marks, wearing long sleeves and makeup to cover the evidence of her self-harm.

She was addicted. In the worst way possible.

Ettinnette set her phone down in surprise as her doorbell ring. She silently cursed to herself as started to quickly find her lighter in her makeup bag also splashing her face with water. "Davina! Someone's here for you!" Her mother called after her as Ettinnette groaned in panic. "Venant!" She said rubbing her foggy ass eyes and walking out of her room to see Jack staring straight at her.

Ettinnette froze for a moment, her heart racing at the sight of Jack standing in the doorway. He looked tired, his eyes dark with sleeplessness and worry. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself before stepping forward.
