Rain, pouring heavy and fast. Just when I thought I was done with cruddy weather. I can feel every one hit me, each drop as large as a thumb. Footsteps, two pairs. I see Cayde and his aforementioned brother round a corner, both carrying a chest that they set down against a wall.
"Being a Hunter means many things to many people, but one thing is universal." Cayde begins unlatching the chest's lid, trying to open up the top with some struggle.
I look over to Broadside-10, who is glaring at me, his dark paint-scheme and general build making for an intimidating appearance. Something ripped, I look back to Cayde and see he got the chest opened.
"Loot!" He pulls out some purple Hexagonal Prism, my eyes widening at the strange allure.
He tosses it underhanded and I catch it, although it almost bonks me on the head. I feel around the object, noticing it's hollow with something inside.
"That there is a plain-jain engram, comes in shades of blue too, but these guys are just a tad more special." Cayde explained best he could, though I can tell not even he fully understands this thing. "Just open it, you'll see." He instructed.
I look down to the Engram, confusion quickly setting in. I felt around, quickly feeling a slit, the top immediately pops open and a bright light blinds me for a moment. In that moment, my hand grasps something, my vision clears and I see a whole chest piece suddenly in my hand.
"I feel like I should be more surprised about this." I spoke with a plain tone.
"Trust me, that's the least impressive thing you'll see all day." Cayde says, rummaging through his chest of loot whilst I put on my new chest piece. Hopefully the next sniper shot won't rob my lungs blind.
"This is where the stuff gets really good!" He pulls another purple engram, the centre of it glowing brighter than the last.
"Prime Engrams require a 'Cryptarch' to decode and open, but the rewards are better. We have one in the tower you can find once you earn your first one." Broadside explains with his attention seemingly elsewhere in the woods behind us. I look back, wondering what he was looking at.
"Don't mind him, he's just itching for us to start your trial." Cayde gestured Broadside to focus, who sighed silently and nodded. "Now, you'll earn that purple one for learning all the basic Hunter tricks, and you'll earn this one for mastering them..." He pauses dramatically as he pulls out an Engram glowing gold all around, it's aura alluringly Exotic. "This is an Exotic Engram! Contains nothing but the best!" Cayde exuberantly explains as he shows examples of what could be earned via sketches in a journal. They're actually pretty decent sketches, and with details on each armor piece and weapons abilities.
"We can let him learn more about Exotics and Hunter fashion later. He still needs the basics." Broadside closes the journal in Cayde's hands. He nods in response with a smirk, stowing the book away in his satchel. "Being a Hunter means putting ourselves at risk a lot, and our skills at dodging and shooting play a lot when it comes to us surviving firefights." Broadside explains as Cayde approaches the edge closest to the woods.
"Triple-jumping, dodging, sliding, anything you can do to keep moving is on the table, which is why you're gonna learn this in a dangerous, life-threatening scenario that is exploring a lost sector." Cayde pulls out his Ghost, who illuminates a cave not far into the woods.
"It's not that bad, better than doing a Strike, Raid or Dungeon. Lord knows he'd have a hell of time." Broadside seemingly chuckled at the end there.
"So what what makes it a Lost Sector? Is it enemy controlled or something?" I asked Cayde with some hesitation.
