The first free practice race in Canada ended with Max setting the fastest lap of the day, Charles had to change some components of his power unit and would have been given a ten-place grid penalty on Sunday. FP2 confirmed the previous result, leaving the reigning champion still first, followed by Leclerc and the number 55. I was unable to see my boyfriend that evening, saying he was tired and gave me no further explanation for his disappearances.
While the following morning the circuit was wet, they had to put on wet tires, as the track dried someone also mounted intermediates. The weather cost almost all the single-seaters some crashes, in which Verstappen was also a protagonist.
Alonso finished first, followed by Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon; the laps of either the Red Bulls or the Ferraris had been good, all of which finished above ninth place. Charles, despite having shown his competitiveness in the last laps, thanks to the turbo change, finished last, for not even finishing the laps.
Qualifying also arrived, and I managed to have a quick lunch with Charles who seemed to be of few words, so much so that in the duration, absolute silence reigned.
I decided that for once I would leave it alone, because it was okay for everyone to have their own fears, but it wouldn't hurt my work, because he didn't want to open up to me. Even if by now, I could no longer count them even in the palm of my hand.
In Q1, the Dutchman finished first, followed by Alonso and Sainz, the Monegasque only managed to save himself with fifth place. Q2 was interrupted by a red flag, caused by a crash against the barriers by Perez, which forced the drivers to come in; Saturday ended with Verstappen as poleman, Alonso continued to stay in the top three, leaving the lowest place on the podium to Carlos.
On the first lap on Sunday, Max was the fastest at the clutch release, while Sainz immediately overtook his compatriot, Alonso. Charles, who had started fifteenth, began his climb up the standings.
Perez had a small accident, which cost him the abandonment of the competition, and with the virtual safety car entering the scene. On lap ten, Verstappen made a pit stop and, stealing the fastest lap from him, Carlos took first place. But the Dutchman, who finished third, did not seem determined to stay there, in fact he quickly regained the second.
The race continued and by lap twenty-one, my boyfriend had already finished eighth, while the other driver of the team had dropped to third once again.
A battle ensued between Hamilton and Max, who when he entered the pits, fell back in a few positions, finishing under the Englishman. Charles at the same time overtook two cars, continuing his climb quietly, Verstappen stole Lewis' place, placing second.
